Octoinkjet are sell refilled canon original cartridges for the 9500 at £40 for a full set. If you are going to buy ink that would be a good option.

If it was a bad cartridge you would have a specific message on your computer screen and the light of the particular cart would blink.
£40 for a filled set of original cartridges is a very good deal, but I don't think this will solve your problem.

It is a very good printer, but they become difficult to find second hand.
Printheads and ink are still available, let's hope for a few years more.

But since you will have to invest a few 100's in ink, resetter, spare cartridges etc maybe you better start with a (second hand) PRO-10 now.

Alright I am back. I resorted to the print head being burnt out (maybe with some imagination I can see slight burn marks on it). I went and bought a 'new' pro9500 and got one for 37€ with all accessories and 5 extra cartridges. But it currently does not print. I want to ask now how I can reanimate it safely from being dried in. I already used the cleaning program once and then made a testprint. Can the cartridges dry out or is it a clogged print head? Can I remove cartridges and then insert used ones or can I only replace old ones with new ones. Should I take out the cartridges and shake them? I have new ones for all colors but I don't want to waste them. I also have terpentine, isopropanol and printhead cleaning fluid (smells and looks like it's Sidolin, so a <5% phospate cleaner) to clean the head if you advise so. Sorry for the bad smartphone photo it is not enough light here.

Good deal, now you have a second printer, a second set of 10 cartridges worth €2 a piece and 5 new carts at €10 minimum (I hope it are genuine Canon, do not waste your time with 3rd party replacements, they really do not work in this printer) and a printhead to diagnose.

First bath your printhead a night in demineralised water (the one they sell for irons in every supermarket) with a drop of dishwashing liquid (Dreft/Fairy or alike). Repeat eventually until no colour comes out anymore.
Dry the printhead (first with paper towels, then with a hairdryer, or on the central heating radiator).

It is possible the cartridges are dried out, in particular the yellow. If you dip a paper towel on the ink outlet you can check if it still delivers ink.
And yes shake them. Let rest them upside down.

Replace printhead and cartridges and report back the nozzle check.

Succes !

PS: even if the printhead is not perfect it is electrically sound and you can use it to check your first printer. In the worst case you need to buy a new printhead (this happens to everyone).

Concentrate on cleaning the head, lot of reading about this on the forum.
There is a fair chance to revive the printer, it are very sturdy machines.
Do not hesitate to contact us in case of doubt.

Hi @Jannis, @stratman is correct, it’s got nothing to do with your 2 print jobs, the error message is directly related towards your print head…

…I reckon that’s enough for you to deal with for now, please come back with an update...

A bit random, but now I recall that my own personal ix6550 issue with blocked Cyan *coincidentally* started soon after printing on the wrong side of a Glossy sheet.
It was late, didn't have lights on in the room, and will never do that again! Whether it was related to the Clog or not, the print just looks awful! That's an awfully awful.

You can soak in demineralized water but there is no need unless your water is contaminated with something bad and you would not wash with it. If your water is "hard" - lots of minerals - then the last flush is recommended to be with demineralized water.

Also, no need to be so skimpy on the Dawn/Fairy. One and a half drops is better!

Kidding, Use more than a drop and less than a big squeeze depending on the amount of water in the bowl. Think of the concentration you would want for washing dishes.

There could be ink flow issues with cartridges. Clogged print heads happens as well. It is the dreaded electrical failure that permanently causes a print head to malfunction that we all worry about (not to mention the stray clogged nozzles that can lead to burning out those nozzles).

Since you are trying to diagnose what is at fault for the missing ink in the nozzle check, you should only use new cartridges or used but known working cartridges. This way you take the question of cartridge failure out of the equation and can then focus on the print head and/or logic assay board issues.

Do not use the cartridges that came with the printer unless they work on another printer. Do not use other cleaning solutions than the water and liquid dish washing soap for now. Keeps things simple. Patience is key. Soak for up to 12 to 24 hours initially. Change the solution if dirty or every 12 hours if you like. You may gently heat up the solution to LUKEWARM in the microwave WITHOUT the print head if you'd like. Place a wadded up paper towel in the bottom of the bowl and rest the print head on it. Pump the print head up and down on the paper towel when ever you want to help drive the solution into the print head. Flush with water and let dry thoroughly before trying it in the printer. Just print a nozzle check and post on the thread. You can try a regular cleaning or two and one deep clean if need be, but no more. PATIENCE!
