Don't knonw how the mods will feel about this, but it might be useful to have a thread where members can post links to useful 3D sites.

Of course there would have to be some rules - no posting of affilaite linsk and no self promotionof busienss sites etc.

Please delete this if it's a bad idea ;)

In the meantime as my interest in 3D printing is growing expotentially by the hour I found a short video that has some useful info on printing objects bigger than the capacity of your printer. It also has some very useful tips for joining and repairing 3D printed objects...

There is so much stuff about 3D printers out there that trying to compile a list of some or all the sites would mushroom out of control, Promotional self-interest would be a huge problem, IMHO.

@Redbrickman , I am afraid you have reach the point of no return, you’re hooked so stop struggling and get yourself a printer, it’s the only way to alleviate these symptoms...:plbb :lol:

So is mine...
Is there anyone who know how to get SCAD to except text and not have it rejected when it compiles.
I managed to get everything where I wanted it in my design, but the text is in 2D and it won’t mix with my 3D design, I’m stuck for now with this condrum..:hu

I think you need to linear_extrude() the text, eg

linear_extrude(5) text("hello");

will make the text 5mm high.

A very big thank you @ninj, I was going to do the text as a PNG and import it into SCAD, but I’ll have a go at the extrude command.:)
BUT it will have to wait because I just got delivery of my CR 10 beast... :ya

Thanks a million for that tip @ninj, work brilliantly, now is there any way of reducing the height of an imported PNG, right now its sticking out the bottom of the model base and I don't know how to use slice to get rid of it..

I found a work around, when I was setting up the file in CURA I could lower the model down below the platform height and this cut the bottom off that I didn’t need.

I will start printing this model tomorrow morning because I want to try it in two colours, so I will have to keep one eye on it till I change filament over, I’ll let you know how it went or not. ! :hu

Here is a pair of legs I did for the CR-10, the second set are being printed right now...
