I hear that global tax evasion is popular in Ireland, especially if you deal in fresh fruits such as Apple's ;-)

Back to shipping: I can easily see how sellers in the US are not that much interested in dealing with all the details of shipping to various european countries. And UPS or Fedex may not give them good discounts even if they otherwise have good discounts with them shipping inside the USA. Who knows.

Worst part: Shipping within europe is not any easier than shipment from the US to europe. Was just looking up those Epson L1300/L1800 that sell for > 100 euro less in Poland than in Germany, but of course no seller in Poland wants to ship to Germany, or if they do then its so expensive that you'd rather do a vacation trip to Poland and pick it up.

Oh well, in Europe the languages are still the primary reason why consumer commerce across borders is not very relevant. Now with Chrome doing translation more automatic than google translate, it does become somewhat easier, but too much of web page content has evolved into graphics carrying text which does not get translated.

@te36, I do reckon you need to get out more, because your post has so much Fake new contained within it, that frankly I can’t find a single comment that’s anywhere near factual...

I got an L800 from alza, quick delivery and responsive service with a slight transport damage. But you may check other customer reports as well.

Always interested to learn more. What i wrote are just my experiences trying to shop internationally in Europe.

Shopping in the EU as it’s known now, couldn’t be simpler, there are no borders, no customs and no language problem and all goods are priced in €’s, well that's my experience, and I exercise my wallet quite regularly.

Up to a couple of years ago I could also shop in Russia, but with EU sanctions, its now nearly impossible...
I don’t think I’ve missed anything... ;)

So how do you get around language problems ? I for once don't speak french so i have a hard time finding shops that carry what i am looking for, and once i found one, it does not send to Germany (non-computer stuff was my last attempt).

Are there forwarding services like the ones we discussed for the USA also in Europe ?

But of course, its only gotten better over the years. My perspective is probably just more negative then yours because i compare ordering and shipping within europe to orgering and shipping within the USA.

As I have never shopped with-in the US I can’t compare, but there are so many outlets in the US that won’t ship internationally, as there are here in the EU.

My nearest neighbour the UK are the biggest offenders of that policy and they all speak English, so to counteract that I use an address that I have in Northern Ireland, I have yet to use an outlet in the EU that doesn’t ship to Ireland, if there is an outlet here, of course they won't.

The language is not a problem either, most if not all EU citizens speak English as their second language and our second language here is also English, mostly the reason why countries don’t ship to other EU countries is because their franchise only covers their territory.

Look at the huge differences between Canon US and all the other Canon franchise around the world, the Canon EU policy is the same for all 28 countries that make up the EU, the US are made up of states but the EU are all separate countries...

If you use franchise in the way i understand it, i think that is illegal. See eg:

http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-00-725_en.htm

This is AFAIK why nowadays companies like alza.de can freely sell printers like L800/L1800 in Germany even though i bet Epson Germany does not want it and would love to prohibit it. Of course Epson still makes it probably difficult for dealers in Germany to get hands on such products.
