Well done ... not as cheap as using a CISS, but certainly cheaper than using original VIP cartridges. Also you should be able to refill the HP cartridges, so long as you do so before the cart is empty - so the VIP chip in it doesn't register as empty. I think that's how it works.
Hi sgillesp - can you provide the name of the Australian company where you purchased the CISS with the small reservoirs? Glad to hear you're having a good result, including from CISinks. Some VP485 users here in Australia are buying the ink carts directly from the US for less than half the...
When you say "refilling inks" - do you mean attempting to refill the original VP485 cartridges, or a CISS system? I have heard people can successfully have original carts refilled (either by themselves, or via a cartridge shop) and they will basically work forever - so long as you make sure...
My apologies for being so late in posting a reply, but I have been experimenting and learning for some months.
As it happens - I seem not to need the software / chip to trick the VP485.
Firstly, I bought a gravity-fed 24-tinte CISS (from Germany), and it seemed to work well for a while, but...
Hi Hat
Just checked Rihac prices for dye ink online in Australia ... $A14.00 per 100ml, versus $A99.00 per 28ml for the VP485 original cartridges. If the ink is kosher for the VP (ie, German, US, Japan for the HP Pro Series), then that is a fantastic saving. Thanks a lot!
Regards, Cargill
Okay - thanks Hat. I have in fact a Rihac just around the corner in my local High Street - I'll see what they say. I guess I want quality inks (not even sure what that means - do I want ones that come from Germany, USA, etc - rather than China). I don't even appreciate the difference between dye...
Update: I have found a solution of sorts - refilling the original VP485 cartridges as they become empty, and then running a small application on the Desktop that tricks the driver software so that it ignores the "Empty" signal it is receiving from the refilled cartridges. The app doesn't reset...
Hi Hat
Thanks for the reply. I have not been able to use an HP cartridge, even with a reset (multiple-use) chip in it - the VP485 firmware seems to demand an original VP-badged cartridge/chip. There might be a re-setter out there that works on HP re-settable chips and works in the VP, but I...
Hi. I have had no success finding refillable cartridges for the VP485 professional inkjet label printer. Has anyone been able to do this, or in fact have a working CISS for the VP485? The cartridges are identical to HP18 and HP88 ones (although a lot more expensive), but the firmware/chip are...
I have the VP485 for my small label business (using 5" rolls mostly, but can be wider) ... it cost $A6,000 in Australia, with the automatic un-winder attached. It's very good, but it chews through ink at high-level print quality. and as ROX says above, the proprietary cartridges (re-badged...
