Testing Canon print head (i865) with a meter

Is there a way of testing a print head for a Canon i865 with a meter before installing it in the printer? I have recently had a print head kill a printer - no longer powers up.
Also does anyone have the complete service manual for this printer - all the ones I can find don't have the appendix with the block diagram and pinouts.
