* I forgot how to determine what the actual firmware version is on my Pro 3880?
* As far as I know it seems to be impossible to remove firmware from the Epson Pro 3880 software?
Is this correct?
Thank you for you're reply.

Removing the firmware completely ? - the printer won't work then anymore . Do you want to downgrade for a particular reason ? I think with an Epson adjustment program you are probably able to upgrade firmware if available , but not downgrading. If you want to bypass the driver you would need a RIP instead.

- The lcd panel should tell you the actual firmware of the printer.
- Yes ... (this is impossible on any kind of device..would be like removing the OS from a computer..)

Thank you both for your advises which were most helpful
The info on the LCD confirms that the firmware is P030D8.

Mine is older (p0079c-1.03.800e) printer is made 2010 (labeled on the back), initial ink set from 1/2012.
I think they have added an auto-power-off function with newer firmware...this doesn't bother me as I use to power off myself (which should be done with most epson's to close the capping station... my tiny new L300 does this by default, i.e. by the current firmware ... other than with canon, there is nothing to hear when powered off)
