R2400 / ink occasionally leaks puddles onto prints

Solved! (workaround)- It seems the temporary loss of vacuum after filling is the culprit. As suggested I just have to do a "clearing" print and let the vacuum build up again. The following prints are fine. Thanks all.

R2400 / ink occasionally leaks puddles onto prints

Once in a while during printing large blotches will streak across then print. Sometimes but not always this will occur after topping up the cartridge. As I assume is correct, I am leaving the chip-end vent open and the opposite end plugged, with usually excellent printing quality. Is there a...

Can refillable carts use 3rd party inks?

For instance, can PrecisionColor carts use R-Jettek (OCP) ink (assuming one flushes the old ink out)?

R2400 turning itself off before printing

It did not improve. I will not bother replacing the ribbon cables. The printer only cost me $250 so since I now have the refill carts I will seek another and try again. Thanks to all who have helped. Dan

R2400 turning itself off before printing

I believe I have found the problem- After receiving the online service manual (many thanks) and feeling all powerful, I jumped in and disassembled more than I probably had to. Belatedly I took a look at the ribbon contacts going into the print head (that didn't require more than removing the...

R2400 turning itself off before printing

No luck. Tried everything. Had Epson walk me through tests over the phone, they think it's some board problem or ribbon cable break. Can anyone point me to an online repair manual showing disassembly drawings? I'm good at that stuff (and have the time). thanks, Dan

R2400 turning itself off before printing

The test pattern made after the big soak showed a marked improvement, ~99% clear. Compared to precleaning, that 1% would not show such blatant banding. OTOH, Epson makes a good case for head misalignment causing such banding. Now if only this dangerously-close-to-doorstop-status printer...

R2400 turning itself off before printing

Forgot to mention, it occurs all the way from top to bottom of the page. Printing from any program.

R2400 turning itself off before printing

The printer shuts off with the power button still depressed in the on position. I must either reset it or unplug/replug the power to restart. Here are some shots of the banding- All on Epson S041069 Matt paper. It shows up in areas of thin pigment. On glossy there is very little evidence of...

R2400 turning itself off before printing

Thanks mikling but that switch cover and assy have been untouched throughout my printing. It turns off at exactly the same head position about an inch from the left most excursion at the end of its getting-ready-to-print dance, lid open or closed. Weird ;-( Dan

R2400 turning itself off before printing

Like many using this printer I have microbanding. I did the cleaning cycles, even removed the print head and soaked it overnight. Replaced it, refilled the inks, and did 2 'acceptable' prints, 1 color 1 b&w, still had the banding, even printing with QuadToneRip 1440 super, unidirectional...

Precision Colors / Image Specialists cartridges not recognized

Hi all, I just received form chubs380 / Ebay the prefilled and refillable cartridge set for the R2400, followed the instructions but the printer see them as "empty". Just prior to installing them I had 2 original carts showing "empty". I have restarted, reinstalled the carts, etc. Any ideas...
