I know that I'm kind of late to this party, but Windex w/ Ammonia has been the best cleaner I've used so far, especially when warm! It works much better for me than plain water, isopropyl alcohol, or anything else that I've tried.
Thank you all for the kind words! It was my first printer-eulogy. :)
jimbo, I think that I will go "all new" with the new printer, except for the cartridges, which I will reuse. I don't want to chance killing the new printer with a potentially bad print head.

Three years ago this week I bought my first Canon inkjet printer, the IP4700. I paid $50 for it new with shipping. Yesterday, my mother called me and said the printer began a print job, made an odd sound, then turned off. No power. I suspect that the power supply or internal circuitry is...
I'm now encountering the error 6C10 on my THIRD MX860. The first one was new, and the last two are Canon refurbs. On all three this has occurred within the first 3,000-5,000 pages on the printer.
The error will occur when a document is sent to print from a computer or when a copy is being...
Omar, what type of ink are you using? There was some IS CLI-221 yellow that caused a reaction with the OEM ink that formed precipitates and caused clogging.
Regarding the Hobbicolors UW8 ink in the newer printers (CLI-221, CLI-226):
The color match won't be as good as it was on your IP4500 without a custom profile but it will still work.
In my experience whenever this starts happening there is a clog somewhere in the cartridge that needs to be fixed. Either the foam is clogged and needs to be purged or the air vent maze on the top of the cartridge has become clogged.
Here is a post that should show you how to easily purge your...
Mahiney,
I still have the inks. Here are the approximate levels in the 4 oz. bottles:
Photo Black: 80%
Matt Black: 70%
Light Black: 60%
Yellow: 40%
Magenta: 35%
Light Magenta: 40%
Cyan: 60%
Light Cyan: 35%
Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!
Try soaking with warm (not hot!!!) Windex with ammonia. I've had much better luck with this than when I used to use Isopropyl Alcohol. As others have also pointed out, you should check the purge unit, as its malfunction may be the cause for your current clog situation.
If I wasn't afraid to completely ruin my printhead I would probably try the pigment ink in mine :)
I have some ConeColors Epson pigment ink laying around... all the appropriate colors except the Red/Green which aren't too crucial. Of course a profile would have to be made.
Not that I have noticed. Have printed borderless letter photos without any issues.
But like I said... I can't guarantee that your results will be the same.
In the long run it is always scary to buy compatible cartridges because you don't really know what you're getting.
That said, my father has run 3-4 sets of these through his iP4700 (CLI-221) printer. They didn't clog the printer and the output was on par with my refilled cartridges (actually a...
