Epson has a range of printers and combis in the market since at least 5 years - L100, L200, L300, L355, L800,L1800 and more, with a built-in CISS, ................. and none of the L.. and ET.. models except the 6-ink photo printers offer borderless printing which is a restriction vs. the base models.
. Can you share which ones specifically are 6-ink? I may be interested in the future in a wide-format ET/L model that prints borderless.

The ones I know of myself are:
  • L800
  • L805 (WLAN version of L800)
  • L1800 (A3 version - crazy expensive)
  • L810 (supports various memory cards directly - Does not have a scanner even though it looks a lot like the L850)
  • L850 (only multi-function 6 colour unit available)
Newer models may now be available

the L1800 is basically the 1400 with an attached Epson Ciss, A3+ wide body and with 6 colors - with dye inks as delivered. The L800 is effectively the P50 with the same Ciss, A4 small body and with dye inks as delivered.
Various people have used and are using pigment inks in the 1400, so that probably would work as well in the L1800. The L1800 is pricewise not too far away from the Surecolor P600 which is a genuine pigment ink printer, and refill cartridges are available as well. And only the L800/1800 and similar models with 6 inks print borderless, other L.... models don't even if the base model would print borderless on glossy paper.
The choice of inks is a separate subject, and whether just the InkTec ink would be the preferred one - please see the remarks on your link about bronzing with this ink in combination with particular papers.
I'm running an L800 with Fujifilm DL dye inks with best results.

tests with the DL inks were discussed in detail in this thread
http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/which-pigment-ink-for-epson-1500w.9323/page-23#post-94204

You have to buy cartridges and drain them to get to the ink, there are various sizes available of 200, 500, 700ml depending on the Drylab/Frontier printer model.
There is a market in U.S. for discounted cartridges of various types and combinations like this Ebay offer currently running, probably Surplus from dealers
http://www.ebay.de/itm/5-Genuine-Fu...378056?hash=item1c72feafc8:g:GYEAAOSwCGVX5rUq

You would pay for the cartridges + shipping + customs handling which does Pitney Bowes for you.
Single cartridges with other colors are as well available via Ebay, but not always all at the same time, just look for 'Fujifilm DL ink' or 'Fujifilm Frontier ink cartridge' or similar on Ebay US

You may calculate a price over the thumb of 125 to 150€ for a litre of ink, that's more than pigment inks, but you get the best long lasting ink very good on all types of papers, and without particular issues with pigment inks like bronzing and gloss differentials. But that's all what you need to test and calculate , which inks and which papers are the best to fit your plans.

Think @Ink stained Fingers has pretty much covered all the above... In all honesty I'd probably be more inclined to buy a P600 rather than an L1800 and that's with me having one of the latter to sell...

A P600 is going to be a better quality unit...

the P600 would offer you the option to print on roll paper - like panoramas, you would be much more flexible with varying paper formats, the P600 will print most likely faster - may better support B/W printing with an additional gray cartridge and more software support. There are always several aspects to consider when deciding for one or another printer model.

there is a business notice at Druckerchannel about Epson's Ecotank business
https://www.druckerchannel.de/artik...notiert_20_millionster_epson_ecotank_verkauft
- Epson sold 20 Million printers of the Ecotank, ITS/L type printers since 2010
- 40% of all Epson printers are Ecotank type models now - probably of the desktop/consumer type models,
and how about business type Workforce/Pro type models - it's not clear from that report whether they are
ex/included in such numbers .
Anyway - that's an indication for a strong trend, and Canon and Brother are following
