I need to decide if it's worth forking out around £12 for the 1290 printer adjustment software that works with Win XP
If it turns out that the head ID value is correct, that means I need a new print head.
I've still not found anywhere to buy a replacement head in the UK, so that would be money down the drain.
The supplier in Germany (Gedat) replied to my email inquiry to say that the print head is obsolete and no longer available.

Does anyone have a copy of the printer adjustment software for XP?

go to this site http://www.page-net.com/frame/pages/Epson printer resetting.htm . then go down to procedure No. 4 for Epson 1290.

Errm - sorry, but how does that help?
I'm not looking to reset the waste ink counter - I need to replace the print head!

The initial screen for the software I need to run under Win XP is shown below.
I also need to find out where I can obtain a replacment print head.

I'm looking for this program too, my Epson 1290 now prints only solid black, I think is a printhead problem, but for me could be good also the one for win 98, where could I find it?

I just tried to use the Epson Printer Adjustment Program to check that the head id in the EEPROM matches that on the print head.
Unfortunately it looks like this program only runs under Windows 98. Under WIndows XP, it gives a "Communication Error" message.
This happens even if you run the program in Win 98 compatibility mode.
Is there a workaround or another version of this software that runs under XP?
If not, then that scuppers any thoughts of replacing the print head.

I made sure SSC was not running.
I tried unchecking LPT1 for the printer in case it was somehow being marked as 'in use' by the printer driver.
I tried disabling the ECP printer port driver.
Hi,
Can i please ask how you acquired the Epson Printer Adjustment program for the 1290?
Thank you
