All of them! LOL
They should hit empty at around 48 grams.

So it’s very easy to install an aftermarket cart in the wrong position, and if that happens then you’ll get the dreaded fatal error warning requiring some very serious intervention on your part or a trip to Canon Service. Ouch...

It would be advisable not to use aftermarket carts for refilling, stick with refilling the OEM’s and avoid many of the pitfalls that aftermarket carts can bring...

Hat, it looks like the chips I have will NOT create a service error. On my part, I would be horrified if that were to occur. I crossed my fingers and said, I just don't believe it! Canon would create a major service problem if this were to be the case. No manuafcturer should. So I did pop a GY chip into the M cart and inserted orange flash light and the printer status window put an X on the Magenta.
Replaced with a proper M chip and we're off again. This is not to say that your situation is wrong. But the chips I have ( Precision Colors) might indeed be different from the one you had and there appears to be no bad effects from wrong chips. So the situation is safe for the particular chips I have and about to offer ......... BUT BUT BUT Hat's experience could be with chips from a different source. I want to stress that.

When replacing chips and refilling these machines I cannot stress the importance of careful work. Do it methodically and DO NOT RUSH it. Take your time and plan the work. We are dealing with 12 different colors as well as 12 different chips. This in real terms more than in my mind doubles the risk as compared to even a 8 tank machine. Just take your time.

Most times weird color output is the result of mistaking the M and PM, GY vs LGY and PC and C. Now we need to deal with this same situation with chips but with the chips it is not easy to discern the differences. So be careful.

That’s was an interesting scenario you set up and tried @mikling, but the chip problem will only occur when an unsuspected carless owner installs the wrong cartridge and chip (Aftermarket) in the wrong position. (Very easily done)

In your test case you used an OEM cartridge and just the wrong chip, but and this is the important thing, did you close both ink doors after the installation ? This will allow the printer to initialise and recognise the complete cartridges set, once that happens, you better not have the fan turned on. :fl

It’s not the type of chip that causes this error, but the printer itself...

YES> Sure DId. It was also verfied by the status monitor with the X above the Magenta with the wrong chip. That being the case the chips I have are golden. Then not all chips are the same.

This is really good news... and we appreciate how much work you're putting into testing these chips.

@mikling, that sound like great news, no matter which way you did it, now while you’re still in test mode, can your machine enter Service Mode ?

Actually, you need to thank the ever crazy Hat as to initial work on the Pro-1 years ago. Initially his experiences scared us off then Joe got into a supply of OEM carts and got the ball rolling all over again. Well, it looks like we are now nearing the key phase of the Pro-1 when we all with the collected experiences and data know what to do and not to do and what to expect.

If you can afford the chips....approx $3 a piece for a large tank and the ink at approx $5 a tank for <$8 a refill for a large cart when the OEM carts are $40 each then the Pro-1 is a distinct step up from the Pro-10. Not cheap but we are talking larger carts and pigment ink.

I'm sometimes crazy not that crazy yet. Only If I need to. I won't push it cause I got the second life when Jose guided me how to get over the lockup on startup.

@mikling, Actually there isn’t any danger trying to see if your machine will enter Service Mode at all, it will or it won’t, eider ways you can just turn the printer off and it will reset and no harm done.

Just think of the possibilities if it does,
LIKE fitting a waste ink tank... :hide :gig:lol::lol:
