Hi

After the Ecotank printer series, I believe Epson launched the xp series, but this printers do not bring any continuos ink system supply. Does Epson intend to return to the cartridges?

Thanks

No, it's not that simple, the first generation were the ITS models, - integrated tank system - L100, L300, L800 and more, the 2nd generation the ET ... models ET 4500 etc, and different models are offered in different sales regions around the world, you are getting different models in Singapore, or Poland or UK or USA or Bolivia, but you can get those via gray import into other countries as well. Canon and Brother are running a even more restricted model and business policy. Epson's ET .. and L.. models are typically based on already existing cartridge type models technically.

It's amazing how much there is to learn from our most experienced and knowledgeable members here.

I'M NOT ONE OF THEM

But they helped me have a great start and I was able to make awesome prints really quickly

I bought a WF 7610 primarily for the size of the scanner 11 x 17. There aren't that many all in one printers with that large a copy or scan area. I have an Epson v550 for film and negative scans

I hooked up an after market ciss to the 7610. I haven't had any problems at all with the ciss and the Precision Colors inks look great on graphics and photo prints. The pigment inks are even more beautiful when I print on heavy water color papers too !!

It took about 10 minutes to hook up the ciss unit and it was my first experience with one. I watched at least 10 videos on you tube on how to do it.It was really easy !

Good luck with your printing adventure

@zing, not being an expert and all that, but you’ll have to be careful with which CISS you used with your pigment inks.

There are two different types of CISS bottles, one is feed from the bottom and the other is feed from the top, see photos below.

To use correctly with pigment inks, you would have had to use the top fill system second photo, the bottom fill type will eventually run into trouble with clogged tubing and will need a huge amount of maintenance...

Even when the "Epson's ET .. and L.. models are typically based on already existing cartridge type models technically." I see that the new Epson printers available in my country use stand alone cartridges, those with very low amount of ink and high price. I think Epson make more money with the cartridges. I have not seen any hp or canon printer with an original CISS, so as the main competitors still are in profitable model of the cartridges, Epson can feel motivated to go back to that path.

Thanks a lot for sharing printer knowledge

Many thanks Hat for the heads up on this problem. This is another example showing how valuable it is to have knowledgeable experts to help avoid the really big head aches !!!!

Would it be possible to disconnect my existing tubes and drop the tubes into vented ink bottles? Or will it require a system with a pump of some sort ? I've never seen one like the type I should be using ????

Thanks again

@danielhaze, Canon do in fact sell printers with a built in CISS, so Epson are not alone in the market.

@zing, there is nothing stopping you from converting your existing bottles to feed from the top, it doesn’t need a mechanical pump to work, it is using a simple siphon system to maintain ink in your cartridges, it’s not that easy to get every working just right without getting some sort of instructions and a bucket load of patients...

Epson is offering these Ecotank CISS systems, Canon is doing something similar, and Brother as well, but most likely not in your country, and not in mine

I guess the business pressure - lost ink business - by 3rd party refill competitors is stronger in some countries than in others , and here the printer companies start first with these high capacity ink models, so they can earn more with the start up kit, and the sale of the first few hundert milliliters of ink does not go to the refill competition.

Many thanks Hat, I'm know I can do it. I actually have parts on hand as I was going to add a ciss to an older printer then changed my mind. I actually love modifying tools and equipment !
