Hi everyone,
I am a Graphic Designer from South Africa and I have my own small Business designing and making Books, Notebooks, Planners etc.
I am saving-up to buy my own printers to start doing most of my own printing instead of using printing labs.
I have my eye on the Epson SC-P400, I like this mostly because it handles thick media very well, can print up to A3+ and its good printing quality.
But I don't know if something like a canon pixma ip7240 would suffice. It is a lot less expensive that the Epson but I don't think it can handle thick media as well (i use 300gsm - 400gsm)
I also need a Mono laser printer that can also handle thick media.
Does anyone have any advice?

Hello welcome in this forum, Anneli,

you may alternatively look for the Epson SC-P600, just using a more universal inkset, as well pigmented, but the printer mechanics should be about the same. I'm not familiar with the paper handling capabilities of the Canon models. These Epson A3+ models use pigment inks which require specially coated inkjet papers, regular carton with that weight would not give a good color saturation. So it all depends on what you are planning to do with these printouts. Refill for the P600 is possible since a while which may be of interest for cost saving considerations.

Thank you very much Ink Stained, I will consider the P600 because of the inkset and possible refill, But at the moment I am more interested in the P400 because it is a lot less expensive than the p600. I do not have the funds and I am saving the money as I go.

The P400 uses a similar inkset to the R1900 and R2000. BUT,.....these are low volume printers and aftermarket ink makers have not spent a lot of resources supporting these in a serious fashion. The P600 and uses inksets similar to the large format machines and as such much more effort has been put on these and if you search carefully, you can get really nice products for these. If you can save longer for the P600, it is a distinct step up in performance and a superior machine. Sometimes the P600 when rebated is actually nearly the same price as the P400.

Please be aware that the P400 cartridges are much smaller than the P600 cartridges - it's about 15ml vs. 25ml, that's more handling , cartridge exchanges and related cleaning cycles, more ink gets dumped into the waste absorber

Thank you so much. I clearly have a lot to learn and i am glad everyone is so happy to lend some advice.
I will try to aim for the P600 rather then the P400.
