Well, it just did it again. I made a print that had a drastic red-color change right in the middle and made me suspicious. There was no warning of any kind.
I don't see how it can be anything other than the cart. What do you guys think, now that it's happened twice? All the other carts pretty much match the on-screen status.

Could you have put the wrong colour into a cart by mistake without knowing it..?

I think accidentally filling regular magenta into the photo magenta cartridge could cause just this behaviour. The print head nozzles and ink channel for photo magenta will contain the proper ink, but as this ink is used up it will be replaced by the much stronger regular magenta causing the red shift.

The red is at the beginning of the print, not the end.

Guys, you gotta give me more credit than, "You screwed up twice." The first time I thought maybe it was true but not two times in a row.
Besides, consider this: If the PM happened to run out in the middle of a print, the remainder of the print should be greenish, but instead it's more-or-less correct. This is truly bizarre stuff.

Was the print printed in portrait or landscape mode?

if portrait, then indeed it is weird.

If landscape...... then first thought is to replace the PM body. I think we have a tiny leak that is causing pooling under the printhead when the printer is at rest. It might slightly contaminate the other colors but would not be discernable depending on the severity of the leak.
If a proper PM body, doesn't fix it, then there might possibly be a printer hardware problem. My bet is a PM body because nothing else makes sense. Then again does the world make sense?

Just reread your post about the red at the beginning. ...you have a slightly leaky PM body. To fix or verify. Put some aluminum duct tape over the plug and make sure it is airtight. Next when the cart is reinstalled, invoke a head cleaning on the PM subgroup and then print again and see what the result is. If it is fixed....it is a leaky seal.

Further to this, I am going to reiterate the importance of understanding print engines. The small difference in the density of the original on both sides of the face is important to understand and how the print engine takes care of this......it uses gray and light gray.

Now open the cover of the Pro-100 and take a look at there the PM is located. Between the LGY and GY. If any ink seeps under the printhead and contaminates the other colors adjacent to it.....the grays will be affected. The grays that now have PM mixed into it.

When grey inks are used.....you'd not necessarily understand where and how and the effects they have at first pass.

@jjohnl, the alternative to your red issue could also be the refiller himself, the magenta cartridges could be leaking slowly, that might account for to much red in the print and then levelling out as it gets used..

Regarding the possibility of a leak, wouldn't I see ink somewhere on the cart? It's clean as a whistle, and so are the grays.

Another thing that I didn't mention explicitly is that other prints are fine. This has happened only twice, and both times that there was an excess of red on one side of the print i also found the PM cart empty.

I'm going to order a refurb cart from PC.

Thanks guys.

"the refiller"... that's me right? :)
No, once maybe, but not twice.
