Thank you. It seems that the answer depends on how you define production. I guess most or all manufacturers use subcontractors to some degree.

Didn't take it as rude @palombian so no need to apologise.

.. and yes, despite tweeting birdies, ethereal spirits or whatever tipple some folk may have inadvertently been imbibing ;)... The owner of Prodinks is a chemist and formulate his own inks. Case in point being the Pro-10 and the Pro-100 inks.

To my knowledge all the manufacture is done on site but you'd have to put that question to Prodinks directly.

I was aware that Prodinks did their own formulation, testing and colouring of the inks but not that they started from the basic raw materials !

Prodinks is a successor of the previous Sudhaus ink company which was on the market in Germany for quite some time, so it was not a new start up .

Maybe Sudhaus was most famous for the first resetter for Canon, the original REdSETTER (TM)?. It was very much welcomed by owners of PGI-5/CLI-8 printers. Luckily another company bought the rights and probably hired some of the Sudhaus technicians and continued the production of the resetters, when Sudhaus went bankrupt. Thanks @websnail for the info on Prodinks.

As much as I like their dye inks (for Canon), as much I have doubts about their pigments.
At least the inks sold for PGI-9.
I suppose the inks were developed for the PRO-10, and who could blame them ?

Understood... We don't have their PGI-9 inks here but in the interests of full disclosure we're aware that the Photo black can clog up the cartridge sponge over time, requiring a flush and refill to resolve.

It's one of the reasons why we took the approach we did with the Pro-10 inks and it has been a learning curve.

As you say, an interesting learning curve.
Chapeau (= Hat :)) you do this before marketing the ink.

In respect to Mr Trottmann, the owner of Prodinks as I suppose, he mentions also the long testing/cleaning/etc process with new inks in his blog.

One day you want to buy a few rounds and I'll tell you the story of the Pro-10 inks...
It's always been a work in progress and while it has been a loss making enterprise in the main, it has taught me a HUGE amount about custom development, compatibility, and a whole heap of other messes ;)

The Pro-10 was a unique experience for all concerned... It was a niche product with very low return potential and very much a "we'll do what we can"... I wouldn't read too much into any other product development.
