Hi All,

Been reading through the treads and I picked up a 3800 for less than $100. It powered up and showed one low ink and no errors so I picked it up. So I'm looking at the manual and the Matte Black is showing up in the 2 position instead of 1 . Should I call it quits at this point and go no further? I can't get to the menu due to low ink.

Thanks,
Patrick

LK is the out of ink cart, #3. All the physical carts are in the correct slots, ink dated 2008.

Looking at your ink levels, you’re going to need at least two new cartridges, and even more depending on the next maintenance cycle, you should also remove all the cartridges and give them plenty of agitation (Shaking) before trying to print..

Personally I would risk the cost of a new LK cartridge and see how it works. If it turns out that there are major problems you can always sel the "new" LK cart.

Hi All,

I purchased some 2oz ink from precision and using Joe's method refilled 60+ml to start. I know not full, but just to check. I emptied all carts, exp 2008, and loaded with new 2oz Precision inks, about 60+ml. New, half full set.

Nozzle checks pretty good. Not perfect. Did some cleanings.

All was good, cleaning, nozzle checks, total 3 cleanings. At the third cleaning, nozzle check, LK gone. Nothing on printed paper. I removed cart. Felt empty. 60g. after weighing. Luckily I did purchase just the LK prior to Precision Inks. Replace and ran cleaning, LK back.

Then nest nozzle check, M gone. Weighed 63g, was perfect prior, where is all this ink from M and LK going???? The new LK cart is behaving so far. New Magenta coming. It's been fun.... All other carts are at 100+grams.

Is there a firmware update. I can't see it on network. Only USB.

I think I purchased a very early model. Only 600+ pages printed. Wiper looks like nothing of the rubber sort that Joe has on Video. More like paint brush type wipers.

Check the seals on the cartridge outlets and look inside the cartridge bay for signs of ink leakage. I had a bad seal on a refilled cartridge on my 3800 and the ink was emptying into the innards of the printer. Replacing the cartirdge cured the problem but there was still a lot of ink inside the printer!

Roger, You're right. The ink has leaked out of the cartridge. Is there a way to get into it clean or just let it dry? I can't see to find a way in the bottom of the drawer. Thanks.

Just read the service manual. There is a porous waste pad under there for ink spills and borderless printing.
