Let me update you on some fade testing, the EV6 ink vs. the Fujifilm DL ink shows that the
EV6 ink fades significantly within 16 days whereas the DL ink patches don't show any significant
changes, I'm finishing the EV6 test with this result.
Fade-4.jpg

When comparing the EV6 ink with the genuine L300 Epson inks, the L300 inks perform better than the EV6 ink after 16 days, whether this difference is good enough for a buying decision it's up to you.
Fade-5.jpg

The comparison of the DL ink against a Chinese D3000 ink shows an interesting effect,
CMY don't show any significant change after 14 days , the D3000 black starts turning into a dark blueish gray which I see here the first time, all other black inks of other inksets tested earlier turned into brown, dark brown to light brown after a shorter or longer time, these CMY inks so far perform better than most other inks tested , with the black turning into this blueish gray. Whether this performance can be a buying decision vs. the DL inks - pricewise - is your decision. I'll let these inks run longer in this test.

Thank you @Ink stained Fingers for your straight forward ink tests, they are precise and clear and you didn’t hide or cover up anything, it shows that all the dye inks faded some faster that others when exposed to natural light.

I too have done ink testing and have come to the same conclusions, it’s really up to the individual if they wish to use 3rd party inks or continue to purchase OEM inks, and all dough pigment inks are way better, they too have the small issue of gloss differential..

@Ink stained Fingers You can achieve much quicker and far better fade results if you place your test sheets on a vertical wall or window facing south, it doesn’t necessarily have to be sunny.. !

I take the weather as it comes, the table stays on a recessed balcony and the targets are protected against rain, only a heavy thunderstorm may blow them away. I won't obscure the sight out of the windows with these targets, and rain may run down the outside walls. And observing them turning brown slowly is part of the fun...I don't need results tomorrow so you'll have to wait

Let me give some update from my horizontal sun fade studio after another week:

Fujifilm DL vs. D3000 Chinese ink - the D3000 ink lasts longer than most other inks previously tested but does not perform as good as the DL ink. As mentioned already this is the first ink I see for which the black fades into a gray, and not into chocolade brown like all other inks do after enough exposure, this is the status after 23 days, the DL ink shows as well first signs of fading
Fade-08.jpg

I'm running an additional test of L800 inks vs. L300 inks since a week, there is not much difference visible yet.

I'm running an additonal test of L800 inks vs. DL inks, there are no changes visible yet after a week.

Based on the findings with the DL ink I printed a patch set with a mix of 50% black and Cyan, comparing this against a 'normal' black ink, now after a week the regular black starts turning dark brown, whereas the 50% mix starts changing into a dark gray. It should be better visible after another week.

this is the situation after 4 weeks - Fujifilm DL ink vs. a D3000 compatible Chinese ink

Fade-10.jpg

the DL ink shows signs of fading - better visible at the darker colors, but the D3000 is visibly worse, specially the black turns into a gray. So the DL ink is still #1 in this respect. I'm stopping this test at this time, I'll report on the other tests in a week when relations between those inks - l300, L800, D3000 become better visible. Now with less sun it'll take longer to get some results.

I have found little difference in the exposure from sun light in winter or summer, except for the amount of hours of daylight, but overall south facing I can get much the same amounts of UV sunlight.

It’s a common misbelief that damage from the sun is mostly heat, but no, it’s the UV rays that causes the fading, especially reflected light and not direct, so Florida may get great heat but doesn’t necessary get any more UV light, try the Artic or Swiss alps, for real fade testing.

Nice test results by the way.. :)

arctic - it's getting pretty dark there beyond the polar circle for the next months

Swiss Alps - o.k. - with some PrinterKnowlege funding...
