I have an HP 6500A printer. I am going to be printing on fabric this weekend and I want to know if I can get pigment ink for this printer. I have double checked with all my sites regarding printing on fabric and they all say pigment ink is the best. I am doing this for a friend and need to get it done.

Please let me know as soon as possible.

Thank you,

KAL

pigment inks do not disolve in water once printed, but the first question is how good the ink stays on the fabric after printing and that depends on the type of fabric - cotton , mix with other fibers or pure poly-xyz. The typical process to get a print transferrred to fabrics is the print onto a transfer sheet with special sublimation inks which bond very well with polyester fibres in a heat transfer process. Alternatively you have the DTG - direct to garment - process with modified printer hardware and special inks for that purpose. I do not think that the HP6500A is very suitable for this process

Thank you for the information, but do you know does the HP 6500A accept pigment ink? I would not go directly onto fabric with this printer. I am going to be printing on silk sheets with paper backing.

It might work, but it could ruin your printhead. Once pigment ink dries, it is very difficult to clear the printhead (personal experience). If you have another HP printer that you don't care about, you could try the pigment in their first, and if the printer seems fine, then maybe try it in the 6500a. After printing with the pigment, put the dye back in and run a few cleaning cycles. This should get all pigment ink out of the printheads and get the dye back in it. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

I'm not aware of a pigment ink refill option, the black is a pigment ink, CMY are dye inks

If you intend on printing black ink only, then it will be fine. Almost all printers (6500a included) use black pigment ink. You would just be able to directly print on the material in black only without any modifications to the printer.
