Hi,

Does anyone know if Canon USA still carries MX870 printheads? I checked eBay listings and some sellers have them as new for around $35 USD, but they are from China and I read from another post on this forum that they might not be new at all but used ones that were cleaned up?

Also, I used to buy ink from eBay through Chubbs for Precision Colors ink, but his store site hasn't been working for awhile. Does anyone know if he still sells ink? If not, what are other recommendations for refillable ink.

I also heard about the magenta clogging problem from Precision Colors ink, is that still happening. I've noticed my magenta keeps clogging, so wanted to know if its still a problem, and I should dump the old ink if that is the case.

Lastly, what is the latest multifunction wireless printer that can be used with a resetter. Is there a reason why the latest printers don't seem to have resetters? Is it just a matter of time before they do, or has it gotten harder to make resetters for Canon printers?

Thanks.

Canon seems to stock print heads for 5 years of the commencement of sales of that printer. After that, you will generally need to find an aftermarket source.

Caveat emptor on Chinese sourced print heads as they may be refurbished. I did a Google search on the print head model number "QY6-0073" and found an eBay seller claiming "new" for ~$80.

Site appears to work for me as I type this.

If your ink is around 2 years old or older, or you notice sludging or contamination in the bulk bottles, then consider fresh ink.

Thanks for all the information. You said the site is working for you, but when I go to it, I get this message: "This Store seller is currently away. Please add this Store to your Favorites and come again." That is from this eBay site http://stores.ebay.com/precisioncolors/.

In this Canon repair centre in the Netherlands they are still available new:
https://prowebstore.nl/canon/sony/printkop-mp560.html
Alternative is to find a used IP3600 for 10-15 EUR/USD, this is/was a very cheap printer, but the head is the same.

I received ink from Mike last month.

I had/have some minor ink feed problems on a particular printer (MX7600/IX7000) with IS magenta pigment ink but new batches were the same, so IMO no production problem but an (understandable) slight incompatibility of 3th party inks. Use Prodinks magenta instead (but avoid their yellow, I had repetitive clogs in hot weather or long print batches).
Over all the Canon pigment inks sold by Precision Colors (and octoinkjet.uk) are much better than other brands I tried (Prodinks, Octopus Office).
No experience with their dye ink.

IMO the MG8250 is the latest printer with resettable carts (525/526 in Europe). It is even native Apple and Google cloud compatible (so apart from NFC nothing new under the sun).
6 inks, nice CCD film scanner too.
For next generation (550/551) no resetter was build, chances are low it will happen for the recently introduced 570/571.
But refillable cartridges with auto reset chips (ARC) are a viable alternative (and not much more expensive than a resetter - although you miss the possibility to keep refilled carts at hand). I also saw very good photo prints (behind glass) printed with extremely cheap no-brand cartridges.
The prices of these last printer generations are lower, for the same print quality and better connectivity, so if you can live with the smaller paper capacity, I am not sure if it is interesting to hoard and maintain older generations at any price.

Thank you all for the replies, very helpful and informative. I will use the precision colors website from now on then. I will also look into the MG8250 printers and refillable cartridges with auto reset chips. Also thanks for the alternative printer choices with the same head.

The information was for Canon multi-function consumer printers (mostly A4).
The MG8250 was an expensive printer, alternative is the MG6250 with CIS scanner.
Attached all types sold in Europe (replace ..50 or ...5 by ..20 or ...2 for the States) with the printhead number .

For the present A3 photo printers, Pro-100 with dye and Pro-10 pigment ink, resetters are available.

Thank you kindly. Does anyone have recommendations as to where to get refillable cartridges with auto reset chips? I plan on getting the MX922 printer. I live in the US.
