Hi,

Having spent a few years in the sublimation industry i have now decided to branch out a little. My main aim for a printer will be to print framed gifts such as the attached.

I really have no idea where to begin when it comes to an inkjet printer. A few factors i guess i'd need to take into consideration are:

1. Quality of print - this of course is my main concern. Prints must be of a standard where i'm able to sell.
2. Cost of ink
3. PPM

Basically i'm after a starting point. Like i said before i have no idea where to start when it comes to looking so any advice at all will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Enzo

Hi @jampers and welcome.

Just about any good inkjet printer will do precisely what you’re looking for, whether it be Epson or Canon just as long as it has pigment inks..

Interesting, it made me look up sublimation printing on Wikipedia. I agree with The Hat, dye inks would fade too quickly.

Be interesting if you could tell us about the relative costs sometime, when you are more familiar with ink jet.

Hi and thank you both for the feedback.

This is a good starting point, i will be sure to do some further research on Pigment Ink Printers.

@The Hat - with regards to DPI, is this something i should consider when choosing a printer, is there a minimum DPI i should be looking at?

Thanks again in advance

Enzo

@jampers, DPI and PPI are a bit metical, so just do what you were doing before on your SG311DN and leave the rest to the new printer, quality come from your artwork not the printer..

What are the media you are planning to print on ? And what are the size of your printouts, and what is the print volume - single sheets or 50 of this or 100 of another layout ? You should be aware that you need media with a special coating for inkjet print, other material would give you much less contrast and color saturation

Hi @Ink stained Fingers,

Thank you for your reply.

I will be looking to print on some form of 300gsm card. I will be printing up to A3 - nothing bigger. Whilst starting out i hope to be producing 10 prints per day.

With regards to the media i will be printing on, perhaps if you have some recommendations as to which media will work the best for what i plan to print. That would be very helpful.

Many thanks
Enzo
