Hello, all ~

I had a Canon Pixma MP970 that I loved and worked into the ground. Replaced it a few years ago with an HP Officejet Pro 8500, which I still use, but I suspect will die soon. I still have tons of Canon cartridges from my previous printer so thought I'd look for a printer that uses those cartridges. Putting the cart before the horse, I know, but it does make sense financially, especially if I find a good match for a printer.

Two questions:

1. The cartridges are several years old, but the ink appears to be fine. Is there a risk of them not fitting a new printer, even if that printer uses the same model of cartridge?

2. If no to above, is there a site where I can plug in the cartridge types to find a printer that uses them? The cartridges are CLI8 (CMYK) and PGI5 (K). The PGI5 isn't crucial (have only two), but I have enough CLI8 cartridges to print an encyclopedia.

Appreciate any insights.

Hi @MJZ and welcome.
Question 1:

You didn’t say whether your cartridges were OEM or compatible, never the less factory sealed cartridges will keep for years, even longer if they are OEM, and any printer that uses the CLl-8 will accommodate your carts.

Question2:

CLl-42 and BCl-6 carts are exactly the same as CLl-8’s, just a different chip and or no chip at all.

Thank you. Most are OEM; all are factory sealed and not exposed to light. Didn't realize that the other cartridge types are the same as CLI-8s. Good to know.

It sounds like MJZ needs a complete list of printers that used CLI8 and PGI5 carts.

MJZ where are you located?

The CLI-8 cartridges can replace BCI-6 cartridges in for instance a Pixma 4000, but the PGI-5 PGBK cartridge will need a slight modification to replace a BCI-3e PGBK cartridge. See this.
