Hi, I have Canon Pro-10 printer and chip resetter. I have bought PFI-306GY inks for cheap, but before I use them in my printer wanted to check if it can damage print head. I see that it is Lucia EX inks and not Lucia inks used in Pro-10/Pro-1, so how dangerous to use it in Pro-10. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome, now “how long is a piece of string” because without knowing the origins of these inks there is no way of telling for sure, post a link might help us.

If you use any other pigment ink in your Pro 10 then you’ll need to profile that ink with your paper to get a good colour match to OEM inks..

I am using original Canon inks from Pro-1 with Pro-10 and don't have any issues. The PFI-306GY is original ink too, but it is Lucia EX, that is my biggest concern.

Wow that sure is an expensive way to run your machine, the OEM PFI-306GY won't do any harm to your printer.

But if you insist on using OEM ink, then you might be better off buying the larger OEM cartridges (ProGraf 5100), than cartridges from the Pro 1, these hold 130 ml and are 50% cheaper overall..

I thought about going that way, but in that case will have to deal with custom profiles. Also CO is not available on large printers, leaving Pro-1 inks only option. Other than that I have high consumption of grey, followed by photo black. PFI-306GY inks would decreased my running cost significantly as I am consuming grey inks 3 times more compared to other colors and I bought it cheap. However, I have my doubts. It seems no one was using PFI inks with Pro-10/1 or 9500. So I am starting to have my doubts. Also on one prominent website I found the following and wander if it still to my printer too:
While the new x300 cartridges can physically fit and be installed in the same way, Canon discourages people from doing so because the new ink formulation with finer pigment particles and increased polymer will clog older head designs.

If you are not using OEM Pro 10 inks then you’ll have to Profile regardless, because this machine was launched with an all new ink set as was the Pro 1 and Pro 100 models, no other inks from other printer can be used without profiling.

I use 3rd party inks in my Pro 9500 and the same ink set for my Pro 1 with extra grey colours from the ProGraf models, the Gloss Optimiser is also from the same source, and a little colour adjustment is all that’s needed.

I can't afford to use OEM paper or inks..
