Have you ever had a MX860?
I keep mine going because I like it and especially like the availability of cheap 3rd party cartridges.
I even bought a spare print head in case...

Only problem - bangs like from an auto body shop, squeals like a pig, grunts like a weight lifter, growls like a bear and delays printing to do this sometimes[too many sometimes]

Doesn't do this while actually printing. At least that’s good,

IF YOU EVER HAD AN MX860
DO YOU KNOW OF A SOLUTION TO STOP THIS MUSIC?
If you never had one do you still know of a solution to stop the NOISE.
If you suggest cleaning or lubricating any parts deep inside the bowels of the printer- Please be instructional in your response. I've never taken it apart except to replace the print head.

WILL SPRAYING THE INSIDE WITH SOME KIND OF CLEANER BE SAFE? IF SO, WHAT KIND IS SAFE TO USE?
IF SPRAYING WORKS WOULD I HAVE TO GO DEEP INSIDE TO DRY PARTS or JUST LET IT DRY A FEW HOURS?

Bad, bad, bad idea.
The electrical components inside your printer are not waterproof The only way to reliably dry out electrical connections is to disassemble them. Spray residue may also contaminate optical sensors. Spray cleaners may also remove lubricants.
If you're going to try to clean something, carefully confine the cleaning to the targeted items. Don't spill onto adjacent or underlying components.
The noises you hear are probably associated with the capping unit/blade wiper/purge unit. The capping unit covers the printhead when the printer is idle. It is typically part of the purge unit. The blade wiper cleans the printhead surface after uncapping the printhead or after other cleaning operations. It typically contains a sponge soaked with a wiping fluid. The uncapping and cleaning operations are the likely sources of your noise.
Search for instructions on cleaning your printer's purge unit. Some consider this periodic maintenance.

You find a service manual for the MX860 here: ftp://mail.racs.co.bw/Canon/MultiPass%20Smartbase/MX%20SERIES/MX860/mx860-sm.pdf

The server is slow to respond so have patience, and it is not always on line, so if you get a time out error, try again later.

See page 56/64 for lubrication of the printer. The recommended Floil KG107A grease is nowhere to be found but a good replacement is Molykote EM-30 L, which is safe for plastics. Here is a post with a link to a seller.

Do not use spray products inside the printer and do not use silicone products.

Thank you very much for the warning-spraying was tempting but I didn't do it. I won't do it.
I will consider I got my wrist slapped- so I won't forget<grin>
The following post suggested a particular lubricant & gave a link to service manual-which I downloaded without any problem.
If I can't locate a special brand-model of lub, is there a general description of lubricants that are safe to use?
If I need to clean off NON ELECTRICAL parts, is there a safe solvent such as alcohol [ethanol or isopropanol?] or something else?
I was very pleased to get 2 very helpful replies to my questions. This really is a worthwhile forum.

I downloaded the repair guide without any problem.
The location of a seller of the recommended lube was a big bonus in your reply.
I searched the 1 INK site and used the search facility there too, but didn't find the lube. Since today is Sunday, I'll call them tomorrow. I'll post result.
If they no longer sell the Molykote you mentioned is there a substitute? Perhaps a widely available lube
such as a white grease? No- I will wait until I will find a lube you folks say won't hurt the printer. I can live with the noise a bit longer.

Thank you very much for the info on the repair guide and the appropriate lubricant.
In my reply to the previous post, I asked about a safe agent to use to clean NON-electrical parts. Can you suggest such a cleaning agent?

OBW: I really look like the avatar. Almost a photo.

I don't understand this, I did not link to any site named something with "1 INK". Instead the post I linked to had a link to this E-Bay seller: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.X&_nkw=Molykote®+EM-30L&_sacat=0&_from=R40&afsrc=1&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true .To me it looks like the offer is still valid.

I have used the Molykote EM-30L with success on both HP and Canon printers. I don't know any substitutes. Silicone products can migrate and damage electric contact surfaces and other lubricants might damage plastic parts.

That is a mystery. Yesterday Here is a post with a link to a seller linked to a commercial site "1INK".

Today when I click on the link you gave me, I was sent to a thread on printerknowledge called "Epson R800 Grease". The thread's URL is-
http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/epson-r800-grease.9465/#post-76337.
The Ebay link that you gave me TODAY took me to the correct place to buy the correct lubricant.

I have a Chrome browser feature called AUTO-COMPLETE turned on. That is supposed to only complete words typed or phrases typed previously or words in the AUTO-COMPLETE database. I think AUTO-COMPLETE might be the culprit. I need to turn it off.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POINTING ME TO THE CORRECT EBAY LOCATION. I'LL NOW ORDER THE LUBE.
