It could be something you have installed (a plugin?) on Firefox is conflicting. That's why I asked about your add-ons which you haven't responded.
...
There is one plugin which might be connected, a downloader "DownThemAll!". I have to check this.

3 hrs of standby later - endless loading again. :he still ONLY this site. :idunno

One of the ominous addresses which appears frequenty while loading (in a small tab at the lower left of the browser) is this: oauth.googleusercontent.com ...any known issues??

I have this listed in my NoScripts window. It concerns authentication of data.

Why do you think DownThemAll is causing a conflict? I have this. Prefer ImageHost Grabber.

You may have other plug ins and should have a few Extensions installed in Firefox.

I do recommend you install the Firefox add-on called NoScript. Whatever is causing an endless never loading of the site may be blocked by NoScript. Trial and error with NoScript may yield happy results without any damage.

Also, AdBlock Plus adds another layer of smoother web browsing, though it can block the revenue-generating ads Nifty uses on the forum. We don't want to bankrupt Rob!

Last, why are you using standby? Any conflicts remain in memory in standby mode versus when you power completely off.

With Windows XP I often had problems with standby, so I didn't use it. After starting the computer after standby, sometimes something crashed or the computer had frozen, so I had to restart. Sometimes I had to push the power button till the computer turned off. The mouse or keyboard didn't work.

I turned on the XP computer again yesterday, and opened the forum website in Firefox and put the computer in standby. After some time I started the computer again and Firefox still showed the forum website normally. I then refreshed the page using F5. This caused Firefox to crash.

Maybe there is a problem with standby in Windows XP?

Thank you for this advice...just have installed and it seems to help!
For the moment without any tweaking....I have to try the options of blocking to see what it does to other sites...
