Hi! Few days ago i introduce my self to the forum, non i like ti introduce my printer which has not yet been mentioned, i belive, on this forum
It's an Expression Photo XP-55, printer only, 6 color. I use it whith rechargable cartridge but i will manage in future to recharge the original one.
All news and information about this printer are very much appreciated. At the moment my concern is about new firmware behavoir. Should i upgrade it or not? If yes, the new firmware will it influentiate the rechargable cartridge, o the resetted originals one?
I hope you understand me an my point.
Ciao Renato

I don't know this model specifically, but there are some things to be considered. I guess you are talking about refillable cartridges which come with an Auto Reset Chip ARC, chips which when they report empty and the cartridges are taken out for refill reset themselves when refilled and inserted again. That's a very typical type of cartridges.
Refill of original Epson cartridges is pretty complicated or in most cases impossible or inpractical .
Epson is offering their users a kind of automatic software/firmware upgrade whenever they think it's necessary. Epson Drivers are very reliable and malfunctions are pretty rare. If you don't have a particular problem with your printer which is driver/firmware related I do not recommend to let Epson update anything on your system automatically. You can disable that function in the driver settings. Epson seems to read and control the date code of ink cartridges and to refuse particular old ones - maybe not today but in a few years from now, and that table gets updated with firmware updates, so it can happen that the printer will accept particular cartridges today, as well those refill cartridges, but not in a few years if you would have updated your firmware then. The datecodes of your refill cartridges would not update over the years.

Thankyou. You spot it on exactly on the cart i am using at the moment. What I would do in future it's to change the original epson chip with the autoresetable one, now on the rechargable cart. I intend to recharge the original cart via the "outlet pad", it may take a bit longer but i belive the ink flow to the printing head / nozzle will be more accurate.
BTW i use "InkTec Premium" ink.

I'd definitely concur with @Ink stained Fingers and disable the firmware updates as well as ignore driver updates unless you absolutely have to update them.

As for refilling the original cartridges there are a number of technical hurdles to overcome there so you may be unpleasantly surprised by the problems they present.

If you don' have a problem with the ink flow with the current cartridges - why experimenting with the Epson ones ? They have an internal membrane valve which may prevent a reverse ink flow, peole have tried to use some kind of vacuum to get the ink into those cartridges but why such efforts ?

Frankly i did not have any issues refilling the T24 cartridges. It take a little time and a bit of attention and a precision scale but i do it, without any wacum system.
I am now waiting for a proper resetter.
After that it looks like actual cartridge, change their maind :) and work now very nicely, so, using the OEM will be for me only a challenge to myself. As a retired person i have a bit of spare time to play with ink and cartridge and, very important indeed, i also have HER official permission :)
Thankyou Renato
PS I thin it's very clear who's the boss in the house.
