As "ChromaDriver" by fineeyecolor.com lists that 95% of wide format printers use the bundled RIPS that should not even be considered RIPS that is true.

An interesting find there @mikling i wonder if there are any other Canon ranges that have similar potential issues.

I have seen grain issues recently when trying to profile a Canon IP4700, print software is Qimage though it is the 2008 Studio version, some prints come out grainy and others not.

I will have to check the prints with an updated Qimage version, which I have. It was only when I tried to make a profile like 3 years ago with the IP4700 that I saw the grain issue. Last week I was trying to make a profile for a friend who has a Canon IP4700 with latest Profile Prism version, but my friend print software is QI 2008, and same grainy prints.

At first time several years ago I thought grain was because of the ink being not so good, printer having issues for out of gamut areas or printhead wear, recent test is sometimes the print is grainy and then not, like random pattern. My test to get rid of this grain was turning off/on the printer and it worked, but then ouf of the blue the problem got back. This printhead has 3-4 years of service, clue here? This printhead was being used daily only with OEM ink, now PC inks for like 4 months, but the grain was with another ink, don´t remember if I have seen it with PC inks.

Tested with OEM ink and chips as well. Same behavior. The High Quality setting is not as fine as the STD. setting. It is not an ink issue but the driver is buggered.
The STD setting seems normal with a touch of grain but the High quality setting is distinctly bad. Take a look at the square color patches. Reminds me of the Epson R200 dating back 10+ years. It is not a software reversal of the radio buttons on the driver.....well it can't be can it.

@mikling Maybe you can try using another OEM printer profile like you did before I think the IP48XX series.

Is this recent ?

No problems until now with the MG8150, MG5250 and IX6550 (all Europe 525/526).
With straight Xrite ColorMunki Photo profiles, printed from Lightroom, color management in the printer driver to None (how could the printer know about the ICC then ?)

Canon perhaps doesn't like Argyll (but again, how it should know) ?
