...I am using a region 5 printer and region 5 cartridges! They were refilled in region 2.
Does refilling change the region setting? I hope not...

Maybe the refillers resat the cartridges for you and in doing so ruined the chips or changed them into region 2 chips?

@Mike gallagher You could have two problems in one here and that’s what’s confusion you.

When you got your cartridges refilled in the US they probably reset the chips for you also and accidently converted the chip to the new region. (Now showing error)

if you have an old set of 221 carts then put them into your printer to see if they will be recognised and if they do, then refill and use those and if you get a REDsetter it could possibly reset the other chips back to region 5 for you..

Edit @PeterBJ posted while I was typing..

I doubt the clerk will have the slightest clue if the machine resets the cartridge chip.
I put a new 221 cartridge in the printer previously. It did not work. The Chinese knock-off 521 does still work. So if they are reset I am out of luck. I would need to purchase a REDsetter to reset the chips? How does that compare with just buying a region two printer and using 221s and the already paid for refilled (and apparently converted) 521s?

You probably would need to have a complete set of the same type of cartridges to get it to work or failing that just use the chips from the Chinese cartridges.

There are none or very few printers available now that use the 221 cartridges, sorry.. :(

Ok.. I've avoided "going to commercial" because I try not to go that route on here but if you were asking me in my OctoInkjet capacity then this is what I'd suggest.

1. Get a set or a couple of sets of empty 520/521 cartridges or even source full ones so you could start fresh.

2. Get a refill bundle with a chip resetter specifically for your cartridges (ie: the UK 520/521 variant).

Then just get on with using the cartridges with the inks and the resetter as if you were in the UK. Once you start refilling you're in a closed loop that doesn't give two hoots if you're on the moon, much less in the USA.

Even if you don't get a full refill bundle and source your inks locally I'd still recommend getting the 520/521 redsetter and some additional OEM cartridges.

As I said, that's my commercial, this is what we have head on but the solution is one that has worked for a few customers I've had over the years who've done the opposite to you and come UK from the US/Canada.

Hope that helps.

Martin
