Hey Folks,

I'm hoping you might be able to offer some advice for me as I am having a hard time finding any definitive info out there in the interwebs.

I recently purchased a Canon ipf6350. It came with a full set of 90ml sample inks (PFI-105).

Having looked at the cost of replacing the inks I decided it might be better to go down the refillable route. I did a little research but starting to think I didn't do enough.

I had gone ahead and ordered a full set of 12 empty cartridges with a 280ml capacity without a chip (from China). The description stated that all I need to do is use the original chip.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/DHL-...CISS-for-Canon-iPF6300-iPF6350/454550860.html

As these cartridges are larger than the standard 130ml I had to do a little modification to the ink housing in order to get them to fit. I had to remove the blue inner sleeve that gets lowered as you close the ink lid otherwise it would not fit.

I have a couple of questions regarding getting the printer to work with these as I can't see how putting in an original chip is going to work as it would surely still be registered as empty and as far as I am aware there are no resetters available for this printer.

1. Is there a way I can disable the status monitor on this printer?
2. Are there any ARC chips for this printer?. If so, can you provide a link please.
3. I notice there is both PFI-106 (130ml) and PFI-206(300ml) chips. The PFI-206 is for the iPF6400/6450. However, will I be able to use the PFI-206 chip with my printer as the cartridge I have purchased has extra capacity. Will the chip work? I mean, does the chip only contain information about the volume of contained ink or does it also contain info on what printer the chip is for.

If invested a fair bit of money in the non-oem empty cartridges and inks so far for this printer and I would hate to think it has been for nothing.

Thanks in advance for any help/support you can offer.

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome.

Now it’s a pity you didn’t do a little bit more research before you bought your cartridges and inks, that said !

It’s near next to impossible to find any chips for the larger capacity cartridges that you got so you’ll just have to use the standard 130 ml chip on them.

Unfortunately the are no ARC chips that I know of for your printer so you’ll have to use one time chips or disable the ink monitoring which is not advisable on your machine, all of these chips are the same and will cover the iPF6000 range of printers.

Here are two sites that do Chips for your machine plus the Maintenance chips also but there are many more on the Alibaba site.

Just curious but what ink did you get for these huge cartridges ?

Thanks for the response. I was wondering if I would be able to use a a chip for PFI-206 which would register a higher capacity of ink. It would save having to buy another set halfway through a cartridge.

These are the inks I bought (please tell me I did good here, lol): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330977940265?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

You also state that disabling the ink status is not advised...but is it something I could do? and how? These cartridges are clear so I would be able to monitor the ink levels.

Appreciate your time and thanks for responding.

Most of the chips that are made for the iPF6000 printer range will work on all of them so if you can get the larger capacity ones then get them, but remember you’ll have to get at least six sets of cart chips plus maintenance chips for to work continually. (Single use only)

When your first chip is marked low or out then stick on the next new one and carry on printing, so if you can estimate how long it will take you to use 130 ml of ink then you’ll know how many chips to buy in advance.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...anon-IPF6400-IPF6450-printer/32254470370.html

The ink you got looks ok but the only way you’ll really know is to use and test it yourself and if you’re satisfied then that’s all that matters, but remember if your machine is left idle to long (Not used) then the heads will clog, regardless of which ink you use.

Disabling you inks is not a great way to run any printer because your printer will waste a lot more ink while any of your inks are disabled and your maintenance tank will fill a whole lot faster.

If you still wish to run your printer with ink monitoring disabled you can do so by not changing any of your chips, so when your printer is showing out of ink on any one cartridge then hold in the resume button for 5 or 6 seconds and the printer will then continue as normal.

This will have to be done for every single cartridge in turn so expect a lot of out of ink warning notices to appear on your screen, this notice will appear when the chip reckons there’s no ink left in the cartridge regardless of the amount of ink left.

Happy printing..

Again, fantastic response! Thanks.

How many maintenance chips would I need? I don't imagine I would need that many...would? Also, what is the purpose of the maintenance tank? Does it really fill up that quickly?

I'm about to put an order through so want to make sure I am not needlessly spending money :)

Thanks

When you spend your money on anything for refilling it usually always is worth it, like anything that stops you buying OEM carts/inks later.

The maintenance tank will fill up gradually over time and your guess is as good as any as to how long they last but once there full you’ll need to empty it somewhere safely that you don’t drown everything in black ink.

The maintenance tank can hold around 1 litre of waste so you can reckon on changing it fairly soon after you begin to use the printer first but after that it doesn’t fill that quickly so long as you don’t disable the ink monitoring.

You can use baby diapers, sponge, paper tissues or felt to replace the contents (Or wash them out) then fit the new chip and your back in business again, the tank won’t be that full when you take it out, that’s to allow you to dispose of it without spilling it, but still be careful.

You can cut down on your waste dramatically by changing some if not all of your cartridges chips together because the printer always do a cleaning cycle for every cartridge Chip changed, so changing as many chips together will only count as one cleaning cycle.

You’ll need 6 or more cartridge chips and about four maintenance chips I reckon but don’t run the maintenance chip to full and there’s a possibility you may be able to reuse the old chips later on depending on the level of security that in them..
