Hello people great to see a forum specifically for printers and hope to find an answer to my problem.

My Officejet K5400 started printing white stripes horizontally along the the page. Basically it leaves blank spaces through out text and also on pictures. Ive tried the hp services several times without success. I even changed 1 of the 2 printheads and i dont remember if it was ok. Maybe the first pages were ok but im not sure. I also tried to clean the inks and printheads but without result. I know i can buy a new one but if it can be fixed would be great. All inks used so far are hp original.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Most likely candidate is the plastic disc that sits on the left end of the paper feed and acts as a sort of braille guide. It is probably soiled with some form of grease, ink or similar that as a result the sensor that reads it is unable to accurately count the little graded lines that tell it how many clicks it has rotated.

Failing that the K5400 is seriously getting on so it could be more serious but if you could try printing a solid colum of black or similar down the page and take a photo to post here it should be clear if it's uniform (which would confirm the first suggestion).

I'm doubting electrical failure but you could also try using a q-tip/cotton-bud or similar to clean the electrical contact ribbon that connects to the printheads when installed.

Hope that lot is of some help but we have a K5400 still in operation here so can take a proper look at other possible issues tomorrow.
