Do Canon Desktop printers remap bad nozzles, or switch to spare nozzles?

I think the truly professional models (the one with paper roll feed, paper cutters, hard drives, vacuum systems to hold paper down, and replaceable waste tanks ) do, but what about the desktop models??

I would think that a consumer grade printer would want as short a life as possible.

Putting in features to increase lifespan vs a new ink subsidized 40.00 printer vs their old 400.00 one. Sorry for to many vs's

Canon, Brother, HP, Ricoh etc.
What about software, linux, opensource etc.

As simple as printer prints nozzle check ask what nozzles are missing, user types it in and printer never uses those nozzles. As simple as that.

However given the fact that EPSON printer are supported by gutenprint and clearly nozzles can be controlled with gutenprint, why no remapping of bad nozzles.

Canon professional printers periodically fire all the nozzles individually near an optical detector which confirms which ones are ejecting. If some are found non-functioning, and do not respond to cleaning, they are either remapped to others in firmware (not sure if there are in-place spares) until about 300 are non-functioning. Then the message "Replace Left Print Head" or "Replace Right Print Head" pops up.

Remapping nozzles may not place ink dots in the right place for desktop Epsons.
