WOW, drool, drool.

KAAAChing, KAAAChing.

Second item: Wacom Cintiq 24HD Tablet - that is somebody who is seriously into graphics imaging!

My wife is a retired banker, and has the outmoded concept that one should pay for necessities before buying the luxuries, so the Centiq is way down on my list.

She consistently ignores my logic that if you don't spend ALL your income on luxuries, how can you figure out what is REALLY necessary. Do we have a "Dear Abby" forum?

RS

She invested some effort with a group of people globally and started a video game company way back as far as 2009. They have been successful and are on Steam now. So yes, she's heavily into graphics that tablet alone cost more than the system 3dogs is putting together.
When she told me what she was going to get, I never realized those things were that much money.

Your wife is an old fashioned banker back then they encouraged saving. Today's banker wants you to do the opposite.

I will be getting a new Motherboard, CPU, Graphic card and Ram very shortly and sticking them all into my 8 years old case but it’s going to be cheap and cheerful, and staying with Win 7 for now.

I just don’t have the bucks anymore to support my printer habits, I am hoping to get something reasonable on Black Friday if possible..:)

Win 7 till Win10 or watch for Windows X.
Win 8 catered for the "touchscreen crowd". Microsoft and the world is going to see or have seen touchscreens are limited in certain applications. I can see my next phone will likely be a BB. I've had enough of this touchscreen keyboard nonsense..BB Passport has me drooling now. BB Phones are like desktop PCs. Yes, the masses have gone to tablets and phones but the desktop PC serves as a productivity platform to get work done. No wonder tablet sales have gone flat after the initial thrill of it.

I pushed the boat out on black Friday and got the necessary bits I needed to rebuild my new system, my current set-up is over 5 years old.

The discounts on this side of the pond were not great but 10% is nothing to snigger about so I am happy with what I got, I’ll make a start just as soon as the package arrives from Scan.co.uk.
It came in at , €924.00

16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance.............. Ram.
500GB WD WD5000HHTZ VelociRaptor,3............ Hard Drive.
Intel Core i5 4590, S 1150, Haswell.................. CPU.
4GB EVGA GTX 760 Dual BIOS ACX,28n.............. Graphic card.
Asus Z97-C Intel Z97, S1150, DDR3, ................. Motherboard.

Well done The Hat!:)

I still think you would enjoy the speed benefit of a SSD, it really makes a difference. The reliability issue is not such a problem now and some designers are using two HDs and RAID with the SSD.

Emulator is right. My guess is that the Velociraptor has a higher chance of failure than an SSD. Those Velociraptors are spun up for gaming performance if I remember from a few years back. Get a tier 1 SSD mfr and be done with it.

@The Hat

Nice system you got yourself there. I do agree with the other lads that an SSD would make the most of your money. Would recommend a Samsung 840 EVO (250 GB for US$100 on Amazon today). Use the SSD for your operating system, applications, and temp file such as with image manipulation for amazingly fast access and function. With the savings you could add a traditional HDD for file storage, even a Western Digital green drive, and be better off.
