Hello everyone!

I have an Epson 1430W.

I haven't noticed this issue before since i have never tried to print in both sides of a paper.
But when i tried this one day ago, i realised that i always had a few centimeters off.

After trying everything, i realised that the left edge guide changes its position when it starts printing. It moves a bit to the left.

When it finishes printing, the left edge guide recovers its standard position.

Has anyone ever had this problem? What should i do?
I tried adjusting it manually when it takes the paper, but if i do that it compress the paper, resulting in a jam.

Here's a video of the issue: it happens in 00:11

thanks in advance.

The left edge moves slightly out of the way so as not to cause the paper to mis-feed but that shouldn’t affect the paper feed position in any way.

It’s the right edge that gives you’re your registration not the left, so to help the printer maintain good paper position I reckon you should put more than one sheet in at a time, try it..

Is this an Epson feature? I have not observed the rear feed left margin guide move sideways when paper is entering the printer from the rear tray. But my printers with rear feed possibility are all Canon.

On my Pro 1 the rear paper feed is centred and when the paper begins to feed in, both left/right sides move apart slightly, so it’s not just the Epson printer that does that..

All of them! LOL
To Peter.
All desktop printers tend to do that! Some more than others.

In the video in post #1 it looks like the rail the guides is attached to first pivots. Then the guide moves slightly to the left.

I watched an iP4200 carefully when I ordered a print job from the rear tray. The guide did not move sideways, but the rail the guide is attached to pivoted around the top edge to push the stack of paper in proper position for the printer to feed one sheet of paper. I have just repeated the test with the same result.

The guide also has a locking mechanism. You have to squeeze two tabs to unlock the guide to move it. Here is a close-up of the guide and locking mechanism:

Not all Canon printers have this locking mechanism, newer model do not

Brother printers feed paper at the center position of the printer  that makes equal wear on the print head linear guides. If your paper really slips try cleaning the feed rollers with alcohol and use good quality no lint cloth.
