I have this idea for a landing page to a website I am making for my more arty/fashion oriented photography. I would like to print my logo etc. on some dark coloured silk paper using a light metallic ink (or white perhaps), then crumble up the silk paper and restraighten it for added structure, light it from side and then shoot it with a 645 film body.

It might sound outlandish but I think I could make it look really good. I have a feeling it can't be done though, which is why I would ask you gurus first. First of all I fear the silk paper is almost impossible to print on as it probably just absorbs and disperses any ink. Maybe if I taped it tight to some photopaper would help. Secondly, is it possible to print with metallic or white inks and can they be bought? I looked but couldn't find much info. I would be fine buying a cheap old $40 Canon or Epson printer just for this one shot so don't really care if the inks kill the head quickly etc. Printer recommendations are also welcomed if I end up having to experiment with inks from some Poscha pens etc.

The answer to your question is no, I’d suggest you use screen printing to get the best results.

Ok thanks, I found out I can get some heat transferrable metallic foil that will adhere to the dye of a laser printer with some heat applied. Will try that out.

That would work too but you’re going to need a Laminator or iron to make the foil to stick..

Yes I know, now I just need to find the right type of foil in the right amounts for the right price:)

Btw, read about somebody adhering the design by using a laser printer. She sandwiched the foil to the substrate (with the design laser printed on) using some scotch tape and ran the whole lot through the laser printer once more (by printing a blank page). Somehow this would heat up the dye from the design and make the foil stick. I don't know much about laser printers (except that my 10 years old brother still prints happily without haven been refilled with anything), but can you explain how this second pass heating would work?

Running the sheet through again may well damaged the toner drum especially if the tape melts and sticks to it, just use a normal household iron..
