Initial Error Code 1403
Steps taken to date:

1. Many unsuccessful attempts to reset printer;

2. I have followed step by step instructions for cleaning and flushing printhead;

Today, I found only two (2) new printheads after a lengthy search. Price: $230.00

Any suggestions for me are greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

M. TimeWarp

Print head temperature sensor error. Most likely a malfunctioning print head. You could try cleaning the electrical contacts on the print head and the printer with either a soft pencil eraser or use a lint-free cloth and Isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

If you are unable to find a local or domestic source for a new print head then AliExpress (or similar) may be your last resort to keeping the superb MP830 functioning: http://www.aliexpress.com/price/canon-mp830-print-head_price.html.

Caveat Emptor -- I am suspicious that some to many of these Chinese-sourced "new" print heads are actually refurbished. There have been a limited number of reports of DOA's and early malfunctions from these sourced print heads. Also, the packaging on some have been reported to not be the same markings as on known print heads sold/shipped directly from Canon. Unfortunately your choices are fewer nowadays but the rewards may still be great.

Thank you very much for your time and the information.

I have searched multiple times for a somewhat established [printhead] site/manufacturing source/company/vendor but the lowest cost that I found was just over $100.00.

I am now weighing my options as [affordable] goods become junkier, less reliable, and even downright built-to-break.

A new printer? Any warranty these days?

A piece-of-plastic printer-head, maybe even deliberately designed to malfunction, and the cheapest option is over $100.00?

Hmmm...

Just sayin'...

Kind Regards,

M.

The build quality of the MP830 surpasses most of the consumer models that Canon manufacturers currently. If your MP830 was functioning perfectly up until the print head failure then consider paying the high price for the print head. But, be aware that sometimes a logic board assay failure can cause a print head failure, so putting in a new print head may result in the logic board assay fouling the new print head. This phenomena appears to be quite rare. I mention it for completeness.

One other thing to be aware of is how full your waste ink pads are. By printing out a page from Service Mode you can see the percent full of the waste ink pad counter. (see this thread: http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/can-not-print-service-test-page-on-canon-pixma-mp830.7867/) The forum general thinks that the waste ink counter can be reset once without leaking, but I would place a tray under the printer in case a leak does occur. Or else replace the waste ink pad -- difficult as I couldn't find a set on the internet several months ago.

You are welcome. Let us know what you decide and the results. Best of luck!

One last thing, you may see that forum member jimbo123 has "liked" your post. Jimbo is the MP830 expert on the forum. I reckon he knows the ins and outs of this great printer better than many a repairman for Canon and has worked his printers like rented mules. Forum legend The Hat is one of the resident experts on things Canon. He's been printing longer than Gutenberg. :D

You may have a hell hound on your trail but there are a couple of white hat gunslingers watching over your posts.
