the xp 55 is basically the Epson P50 succsessor and with FINALY a better printhead its has 6*180 nozzles instead of 6*90
the 6*180 printhead was FIRST aviable with the PX700W which was introduced nov. 2008 (!!!)

due to the cartrige design with the "Elephant" Inks >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400793960292 < pic 2
it requires even refillables to have a foam/sponge inside, I am not quite sure if this will work as good as with dye inks on the "long" term
but I succsessfully did this with both XP 750 and XP 950 models before

If you dont need the A3+ Size go for something smaller
If you need A3 Size it the 1500W could be another challenger

Since you would need Custom ICC profiles to run pigment ink an a native Dye Epson Printer B&W printing would be very neutral too if you measure enough patches with the ICC routine.

I am not saying it would be neutral but at least even better as with OEM Dye inks

but indeed the Pro100 prints amazing B&W
