Possibly by investment casting, may be 3D printing to produce the wax cores, but I doubt it. More likely pore-free die casting. Cameras must be regarded as being reasonably large quantity production items. It would have been interesting to see the other sides, it is obviously part assembled.

Received my (pre ordered) new Canon 7D Mk2 yesterday.

Nice solid piece, but boy, do you have to learn a lot when you are used to the 7D. They have changed all the software screens related to the buttons and moved all the buttons around.

A vast amount to read and a lot of familiarisation needed. But it does look as though it is a significant advance.

Went down to Greylake RSPB reserve in Somerset today. Very little wildlife about, (however it will be different in 2 months time), my intention was to try out the 7D Mk2.

I don't yet know what I'm doing and am feeling my way through some of the issues related to AF. I was using an EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens and also tried out a 1.4X extender, which would not work with the 7D, but will work with the 7D Mk2. This gave nominal 400mm and 560mm focal lengths.

These two images show farm equipment, which must have been about 3/4 mile distant, the foreground tufts were a fair distance away. The first image is without the extender and the second with the extender.

It looks as though the extender works well.

The image below was taken at ISO 16,000 the maximum without extension, f20 and 1/1000.
