Thought id mention this for people looking for a workhorse Laser printer for text only.
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2824758.htm

Other places are charging around £65 and up for the same printer. Its even £65 odd on Amazon...

And for cheap toner refills Amazon does have that covered...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IK0DYQO/?tag=ho01f-21
£6.50 each :D

My office went and got one this afternoon, not the fastest laser ever and no good for pictures but for cheap workhorse text printing its ideal. If you run a company or where you work needs a new printer for documents this is worth a look.

A very nice little printer if you’re looking to entry to the laser market cheaply, BUT.

I imagine this printer would have a very low duty cycle before it started to show signs of wear and tear, and my main concern would be the small cartridges for it, I reckon you’d be robbed buying new toner, there again I could be completely wrong ! :idunno

Gift horses comes to mind..

Toner page yeild is 1,600 pages per toner...

(see near bottom of the page)

The replacement cheap amazon toners i pointed to are Original Canons refilled/reconditioned.

Obviously it will not have the build quality of a top end business laser, but you would probably pay at least 3-4x more for one of them. Id personally just buy this run it into the ground if you are a business and then just replace it, at £40 and how cheap the toners are i doubt you would be worse off.

Isn't it HP LaserJet P1102 flesh under Canon brand?

Mechanically LJ P1102 found to be quite durable, 50k or more prints without need of servicing.

In LJ P1102 it is possible to put used toner cartridge, finally disabling toner level monitor.
Is this true for Canon laser printers?

They are totally different printers, no idea why you would think a Canon and HP have anything in common. That HP build wise looks pretty much the same quality as the Canon, its about double the price so likewise is not likely to be amazingly heavy duty either.

Łukasz could very well be right. I remember that old HP Laserjets were "Canon Inside". Some HP printers of the Photosmart series are very Canon like, with a separate print head and separate ink tanks. Also see this thread and note post #2.

That's (converted in €) 0,5 ct/page for the toner.
Incredibily cheap, normal 3th party refill prices are minimum €30 (= 1,8 ct/p).

With my MX7600 and IX7000 inkjets and 3th party pigment ink I am at 0,4 ct/p (and less in draft).
Even with Canon ink I was not above 1,7 ct.
Add to this 0,5 ct for the gloss optimiser and 1 ct for high quality inkjet paper to achieve laser quality output.
But mine do full duplex, colour (and photos) too.
Don't know if they will reach 50.000 pages (but I am far over 10.000).

Post 2 to me personally sounds like a bit of a tall tale. As to the MG3550 that uses PG540/CL541 carts apart from the basic head technology in those carts i am not aware of any HP printer they would come close to fitting in.

No doubt many printers share things like "capacitors" etc in common heck even the thing on the end of a wire called a plug will be more than similar, as to the physical "printer" bit though i doubt Canon and HP have much in common apart from errr printing.

If that were the case you would see far more cross over like same pattern carts being used and chips. Lexmark do this with some other lesser known brand (name escapes me for now) which ive read and seen youtube vids about, exact same carts just with the chip in different place, people remove the chip on the lexmark cart, reposition it and put it in this other printer brand to get carts cheaper (will hunt around and try to find the name of the other brand).

EDIT:
Found an example of the Lexmark thing...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53swvx_0l98

Ive never seen an example of cross over like that between HP and Canon though which i would expect if they were both working in some way together to make printers.

I wonder why such misleading and trollish comments can be tolerated on this forum?

Nothing misleading or troll like about my comments. I have never seen any HP printer share anything with a Canon, apart from its ability to print. It can happen with other models as i have demonstrated with the Lexmark example. If you can provide any evidence of a HP Laserjet and this Canon Laser being the same in any way im more than happy to read about it, im sure many others would also. Until then its nothing more then theory and supercision with no evidence.
