IN OTHER NEWS:
Did anybody see Apple's response to the reports that after selling 10 million plus iPhones, 8 people, not knowing any better managed to sit on their phone and now complain it is bent.

Apple has come out with their remedy for this called iAgra - see image below

OK, my iMac is due to be delivered in thursday. I bought 16 GB extra memory to be installed for running windows 7... On my iMac ....crazy me.

Jobs is turning in his grave just at the thought you dare upgrade your Mac and refuse to be tied to a Apple eco-system.

My current system is a Raspberry Pi hooked up to a Doodle Sketch. I'm saving up for the self-calibrating Etch A Sketch model.

Etch-a-sketch eh, i bet you just want the aluminium powder inside to make some Thermite :D

Price here for a 3.4 GHz iMac 27" base is A$2449 :ep add RAM Good Graphics and Apple Care and that is A$3379 without the conversion to a SSD.
The basic Thunderbolt 27" is A$1199.

Also had a look at a Mac Pro...........A$6608 for a not so fancy tower.
The cost of getting into 27" Eizo is just as prohibitive $A3235, add about the same for a decent PC based on the Spec @CakeHole supplied, so taking that into consideration the iMac looks a tad less expensive for the benefits of a 27" screen.
It would be nice to be able to split and view both LR and PS screens at the same time

If the iPhone 6 is anything to go by we pay a heavy premium for being the Lucky Country!!!
the 5" screen sells here for $A 1008 outright purchase against less than half of that in the USA from what I can see.

I think they use a different set of exchange rate tables, everything is cheaper in the States, no matter where it comes from, I bet Australian lamb joints are cheaper in the States.

In Europe you pay €699 for the most basic iPhone 6 with 16 GB memory. the USA is way cheaper. We pay at least €425.- for the Canon Pro-100, no cash back actions ending with only $48 including alot of expensive photo papers included.

As Sam Kinison succinctly states: Move to where the food is. (NSFW or minors)

Regardless, Apple stuff is overpriced and heavily pushes the paradigms of obsoletism and elitism. I have no respect for the rubes who wait outside overnight to be the first to get a new phone. I do have sympathy for those who suffer artificially high printer prices and thank them for subsidizing my low cost.

@stratman, I wonder how much memory will you need to run your new system.
:bow I would Say 7 to 8 year old…

Apple could afford to give us all here an iMac 27” and iPhone for free and it still wouldn’t dent their profits with the money they pass through here.
Ask @stratman ..:old

You would not even need a monitor like that to better the Imac this will make it look like a blurry mess... http://www.samsung.com/uk/business/business-products/business-monitor/professional/LU28D590DS/EN can be had for around £450 here in the UK, (around $800 Aussie dollars without me getting the calculator out to be spot on) looks similar to the Imacs general appearance also, that leaves you with over $1500 aussie dollars to build a machine which likewise will make that imac look like a speak and spell.

:yuckyuck

That 7-8 year old runs rings around me on the computer.

Agree the prices are exorbitant in Ireland! On the flip side, we pay more for Guinness and I hear it isn't the same (as good) as in the homeland.
