Hi,

I'm a new member. I have an HP Officejet 7410 all in one with two problems.
The printer is over 4 years old. I have been refilling the ink via syringe using NCR retail kits and getting 5 to 15 refills reusing original HP cartridges. Never had a problem besides the messages that the ink is empty until now.

Lost color printing a few months ago even with new HP replacement cartridge. Currently lost it's scanning ability last week. The scanner bulb lights and scans for the first 1 or 2 inches and then shuts off for the rest of the scan.

I am considering the purchase of a Brothers MFC-J870DW. I would like to continue to refill the ink myself. I like the features of this unit. Is this a good choice?

Hi Dan and welcome.
If you’ve been happy with a HP 7410 for all these years then I reckon the Brothers MFC-J870DW would be a good replacement for it.. :)

Is this a good candidate for DIY ink refilling and if so what type of problems would I run into?

The printer has easy to fill carts and I am not too sure if it has a chip on the carts or not but I don’t think so, I am not a brother printer user so am a bit vague when it comes to refilling them.

You’ll have to learn how to refill the brother carts but they are much the same as HP carts, so I would suggest doing a bit of homework before attempting to do your first refills..

The Brother MFC-J870DW uses LC121 or LC123 carts (one is standard sized the other bigger) which can be refilled with some fuss and are chipped check youtube for various vids. You can buy NON-Original carts around £3-4 a time (convert that to your currency).

You can also buy proper refill carts with MASSIVE capacity and auto reset chips like this....

or standard size like
