I was testing a new ink when these problems came to light so I knew I was risking the print head if things went pear shape :hu so I was watching the print output like a hawk and stopped the printer once any of the colours started to fade or stopped altogether.

I keep getting failure on the yellow first then later the cyan started but both colours would always return when I ran a purge cycle, the magenta and black never suffered from any issues and always printed perfectly.

Later the yellow totally refused to print and the heads look like they were damaged (burned out), despite purging and external soaking and cleaning the nozzle print looked shot to pieces in fact it was worse than the magenta is currently, now it's back 100% again !

The magenta on the other hand just failed instantly no warning, that was much later dough, it was there one second and gone the next and I actually taught I could get it back functioning properly as well.

Every nozzle print from the magenta from that moment on was exactly the same and I knew it had gone beyond saving and so I decided to dismantle the heads to see if I could cure the disappearing cyan issue. (Curiosity)

The cyan is now back on I.S. ink as is all the other colours, but now the cyan heads would cease to print almost instantly just like the magenta did, but if left for 15 minutes would print normally, like nothing had happened and without the need for a purge cycle ?

The test inks on the other hand were fading out by 50 or 60% and would still continue to visually print but needed a purge cycle to bring them back to 100%, some difference.:hu

I may never get to the bottom of this strange behaviour but I do hope I never come across it again, but these Canon print heads don’t half know how to throw a curved ball..

Hat, you scare me with the sudden magenta burnout :ep.
Except for that my experiences are the same.

For other readers I will resume our long conversations and can tell the positive news that I have the "new" blacks and magenta together with I.S. yellow and cyan on the IX7000 since 2 weeks and never had to clean or whatever (as it should be).

The printer stayed more than 4 weeks shut off with this combo and the first nozzle check was perfect.
It still is like that after about 100 photo prints from 4x6 until A3+ plus some text documents.

Since yesterday the photo black and magenta are in the PRO9500. After about 20 A4 photos no problems.
I will print a nozzle check every evening before going to bed :).

The MX7600 is filled as the IX7000 but with yellow and cyan from Canon (to eliminate all doubts on the cartridges).
Changed yesterday the cyan to the "new" one again (only to find out why it doesn't work).
I don't know if I will have the courage to retry the yellow, I see no advantage, only risk.

Attached the nozzle prints. The IX7000 is a nearly new printer, the MX7600 has 6 years and at least 10.000 pages (and a few bad nozzles).

I printed what I needed, no large continuous print jobs (>100 pages high quality, very slow) as I did when the yellow started to give problems (and as you provoked recently with 25 test pages). There may be a heat problem with these inks at least in the IX7000/MX7600.

The reason why I tried other inks is that I never was able to make magenta work 100% on the MX7600/IX7000 (see previous posts). The "new" magenta performed better at this point.
This color also causes less gloss difference on satin and glossy papers.
Same for the photo black (it can also be the gray).

So long as the magenta continues to work without problems, this color is a double win for me.
For magenta, photo black and gray I will continue to test for less gloss difference (I could not find matte papers with a sufficiently deep gamut and dmax, I am trying now satin and pearl papers).

For all other colors am satisfied with I.S.
No clog in 6 months refilling.
And no clog with Canon ink in 6 years.
Some people may find the technology rather amusing, others turn mad by the shakes and rattles, but it works and is not too difficult to refill.

Powerklin certainly does mighty work but it's way to expensive for what it actully does, it a kin to OEM ink I reckon.. ;)

For Epson printers this is a good solution (especially since you can't remove the head), but not for Canon.

This is why The Hat cut off a cartridge.

You can make it yourself with silicone hose (from a model airplane shop).

Good news it was never on the PRO 9500. Maybe this printer is more tolerant for refill inks.

On the IX7000, was it always one of the CMYK colors, or also the MBK (different nozzles) ?
IMO this printer (and the MX7600) did not sell well and the few remaining users don't refill.

Do you see a correlation with the inks/colors ?

How much do you print on each printer ?
