For a change I have a printer problem. This printer is the utility vehicle of the house. It has a black pigment and a tri-colour dye cartridge. I have been refilling with Websnails inks quite happily until now.

Suddenly the printer is scattering black ink everywhere but on the paper, bit of a mess, like some of the other recent posts.

I have flushed out the black cart and refilled, checked the sealing or otherwise of holes and vents, but it is still misbehaving.

It makes me wonder if I have suddenly reached some software limit where HP is telling me "that's as far as you go mate".

Does anyone know the answer?

I have two black cartridges on the go alternately and they have both started to have problems at the same time.

It sounds like the print head on the cart has reached the end of its useful life. Carts with built in printhead typically last around 7 refills give or take 2 or 3 either way.

Cynics might say about the same life as the independent print head!

Have you tested that the cartridge is not leaking? A leaking cartridge cannot print. Instead it will drip ink on the paper and other places inside the printer. You can test that a refilled cartridge is not leaking by placing it in a shallow tray for at least 10 minutes, with the nozzles facing down but not touching the bottom of the tray. The cartridge must not leak.

Hi,

What about purge/capping unit condition?

If Canon printheads suffer from faulty operation of purge unit, why HP won't?

Purge unit is i doubt would have anything to do with his issue. His issue is ink flow related in some manner. Even with a half knackered purge unit things should work for a page or so when he switches carts and it does not sound like it does. I still say as its carts with built in printhead the have reached the end of their useful life, opening them up and cleaning them and the sponge out may help but i would not guarantee it.

Squeezy bottle with blunt needle.

What mesh? You may have hit on the answer?
