Has anybody recorded the required volume of ink needed to refill the dye ink and the pigment ink tanks in this series from:
1) completely empty
2) from the point where the low ink warning message comes on

Has anybody recorded the total weight for the dye ink and pigment ink tanks in this series when full?

If you have this information could you post it here in a thread reply?

Yes I once weighed some Canon OEM PGI-520/CLI-521 cartridges, both new OEM and cartridges that had been declared empty by the printer. The PGI-520/CLI-521 cartridges are identical to the PGI-220/CLI-221 cartridges except for the chip. The weights for the cartridges, both the new unused and the empty are without the orange clip and the vent sealing tape. I have no weights for cartridges that have just triggered the low ink ink warning. Here are the results:

Thanks very much for that.

Now if I can just get the refill volumes I think I will be set. Recent posts suggest that the low ink warning comes on for these carts when some ink has already been used from the sponge side. Even if we just had the volume required to fill the reservoir, then we could likely take a reasonable guess at what is needed to top off the sponge side.

I am trying to do this making as little mess as possible. Seems to me if you know how much ink you want to draw in the first place that is your best shot at that.

In fact, if I have the volume for the reservoir side, I will use the weights above and see if I can calculate how much the sponge side needs during a refill from the low ink warning message.

If you wish to find out how much ink the reservoir hold then fill the reservoir up to 80% full and leave the cartridge standing for 10 minutes, then draw out all of the ink from the reservoir.

Now just weigh the cartridge and take weight from @PeterBJ fact sheet above and you’ll have the exact amount needed to refill the reservoir..:)

If I don't get the volume here, that is exactly what I am going to do. FIgured if somebody already had it, I would just use it. Knowing how much is needed for these opaque, window reservoir tanks when the low ink warning message comes on has got to be the cleanest way to do this.

I am now wondering though, based on the sponge side air pocket information in the Flushing....WHY thread, if air pockets start to form in the upper sponge as soon as air begins displacing ink up there. If that is the case, will that part of the sponge still get saturated with ink as the ink level rises on the sponge side during refilling? Maybe the air pocket issue is only an issue if you drain the ink on the sponge side to nothing and allow air pockets to begin to form in the lower sponge area, where the ink is channeling from reservoir to sponge side. Maybe that is the real problem, air pockets right down at the base of the sponge where the ink is channeling across from the reservoir.
