I purchased a chip resetter for the Epson 3800.
When I apply the resetter, a blinking red light comes on indicating that the chip contacts and the pins on the resetter meet. Thereafter the red light turns to green. After the green light turns off, I disconnect.

When I put the cartridge back in the printer, the cartridge should now indicate that it is full.
But this is not the case, it still shows the ink level as before the resetting.

This resetter should also reset the chip of the maintenance tank, but it does not either!
I switched off the printer, then took out the tank, resetted the chip (green light on etc.) put the tank back and switched power on. No change in the level indication of the tank.

I carefully applied the enclosed instructions.
* Did I make a mistake?
* If I now would fill the cart that still shows the ink level as before after being reset, what will then happen?

Hi Harry,

I am afraid Epson has changed the chips and/or firmware now, so I am afraid the only feasible option is using refillable cartridges with tuning chips. About the maintenance tank: you have to have 2 maintenance tanks to get it worked, as the printer will store the information and you will have to exchange the the tanks to get it working.

Good evening Nelson,
I am afraid that you are right!
But perhaps somebody has experience with this matter and can come up with a solution?

All of them! LOL
I think I obtained my resetter at just the right time.

I don't know whether Epson changed the chip coding OR the resetters themselves changed. All I know is that I can reset every one of my carts which is 4 full sets. ALl my carts dates range from 2010 - 2014.

To put together 4 sets, I had to purchase nearly empty carts from 3800 users, and had to pay extra so they would sell them to me before they weighed less than 88 -90 grams. Full is 150gr and Empty ( as declared by driver ) is 60gr
That leaves 10 ml / grams of ink still inside the "Empty" cart. This prevents ever running the printer dry. I received carts with about 30-35 ml of inks still in them which I of course put to work.

Epson supposedly does not charge you for the cushion of 10 extra ml that we end up tossing out. If you could get a hold of a load of empties you could conceivably harvest quite a bit of OEM ink at least 10ml per cart and often quite a lot more.

Now back to the problem. I've received two communications from two different gents who are doing the cart modification and they had purchased the resetter I showed on my videos.
They were able to reset all but three of the colors. It's been a while but I tend to recall that it was L Magenta, PK and one of the LKs.

Except instead of every looking like it was correctly resetting, the red light would simply never go green.

Now for the interesting part. I had these guys mail me their troublesome carts and I was able to reset them and run them on my 3800s and show full.

I then returned them and have not heard anything else.

Are they able to now reset them? I have no clue.
But that would lead me to think that it is the resetters that have changed after I got mine.

To bad the OP lives in Belgium, I did live there from 3.5 years but unfortunately I no longer do. If I did I'd be hounding Pharmacist every week.
Anyway, what I would suggest is for the OP to pay Pharmacist a visit. He has a multitude of resetters made for the 3800 and could possible sort this out for you.

On resetting the Maintenance cart, you do need two tanks. You remove one and reset it, Then you insert the second one un reset one, the printer will record the second MC chip and remember it and forget the previous one ( the one you just reset ) Now you remove the second one and reinsert the first one. That should work.

A second method if you only have one cart is to remove it, reset it and now remove that chip and put it aside. Take say a Cyan chip and attach it to the MC and insert it into the printer. It will of course be completely rejected. Now remove the Maintenance Cart again, take off the Cyan Chip and replace it back with the original, but now reset one and reinsert it into the printer. It should now be recognized as fully EMPTY.

Learn to repack these carts with fresh absorbent material!!!!

Hope this helps. But most importantly, I hope you can sort out the OEM cart chip problem.

Joe,
There are a number of Mainland China sellers. Octojet, where I believe you got yours, seem a bit odd, theothers are slow to respond and are disinclined to sell one off. They all offer long term performance guarantees.......
So what does this mean?
On one hand we have manufacturers able to produce THOUSANDS of units for just 3800 or 3880, and apparently Epson trawling these forums with robots to gain intel then responding in days/ weeks???

May be that we need to speak in code ourselves so Epson cant find out what we are saying about chips and resetters:rant

No I got it in the USA from Rjettek as part of a refilling kit for Older Epson Carts.

Joe this reply confuses me, have a look at your reply to me on July 23, 2014.

Cheers,

Andrew

Sorry it wasn't meant to have been here! Sorry, it's late!!! I deleted it.
I was referring to the refilling tip from Rjettek that I use to refill 3800 carts.

Ok Joe, no stress, I did see the same post in the two threads and I did not even think about a duplcation accident.

Cheers,

The new resetter offered by 1214453# ^, is FANTASTIC, I just reset 9 of my 3880 carts dated ""/$&/€×¥4 AND a FULL set dated @"/$!/€×¥4. I bought it off Christopher Robin via Hephalump @ e_or
