Is the rubber tip on the syringe, key in filling a Epson OEM 3800 cart?

I have studied with great interest the excellent videos regarding refilling OEM 3800 carts which Joe Rodriguez (jtoolman) did present on this Forum.
The interesting technique Joe developed doesn't look complicated, until reaching the refilling process itself.
I think that there could be a practical problem in the filling process?

Joe uses a syringe without a needle, but with a black rubber tip on it, that seems to fit precisely in the filling opening and which makes it possible while pushing ink into the Mylar bag, to exert enough pressure for doing so.
Because the rubber tip closes off the opening no ink can flow our of the filling opening.
Whether thereby the rubber tip or the exerted pressure do push open the plunger to let ink in, I can not know.

It is likely that when using a syringe with a needle, that the needle must first push open the plunger, which is kind of a delicate operation.
In addition when using a needle ink can not be pushed with a minimum pressure in the Mylar bag because it will then flow out of the filling opening.

The key element in all of this could well be this little black rubber tip on the syringe? So far I have not found this rubber tip anywhere on Internet.

The question is "how to fill without the rubber tip"?

Hi Harry,
The best way to find out is to simply ask @jtoolman where he got his filling tips from
or you can get something like this from Octoinkjet

and better still you can make one of your own like this.

To make your own refiller just use a syringe needle say 18 gauge and just pull the steel part out of the plastic housing and then trim off the little wings on the sides of the plastic to make the sides smooth.

If you have some difficulty injecting the ink into the cart then drill a small hole in the side of your plastic refiller maybe needed, see this Pic tip.PNG
from an Octopus HP refiller for an example..

Hi Harry,

I have a feeling that last device from Octopus-supplies might be the key to refill Epson one-way-valve cartridges like the ones on the Pro 38x0 cartridges. Maybe you can buy one and report back about the refilling possibilities and share your experiences with us all.

@pharmacists have you seen the price there asking for their refiller ?
€15 …:ep

The plastic ones are just as good and far better value.

OK the mysterious Black tip I used is from a company called Rjettek. They are the USA OCP distributor.
The tip may not be for sale individually as it is a component of their EPSON cart refill kit that I featured in one of my videos way back.
The secret to easy fill is to have a tip that also has side outlets so the poppet valve can be depressed and freely flow out the side openings.

I will try to find the refilling kit # but you might do just as well with the Metal tip shown above on this thread.
You can actually use a typical syringe. You have to insert it as best you can and tilt it to the side a bit, that way you depress the poppet and are able to also inject ink into the bag.

I'll get back to the forum tonight.

Thank you all for your suggestions!
My question remains whether the filling can be done by letting ink flow out of the syringe and flow into the Mylar bag without any pressure?

Well it doe take some pressure. It can not be made to flow in passively. The Mylar bag is somewhat stiff.
It is pleated similar to one of those Kiddy Juice bags like CapriSun.

Hi Joe,

Can you confirm the very adapter sold by Octopus-supplies.de for HP printer is similar to your secret tip? Pressing in the valve and ink can be injected by the side openings.

No. It is different. BUT as long as you have side or lateral holes to allow ink to flow and it's the correct diameter to easily enter the typical Epson cart exit port rubber seal, it should work. I will take a close up shot of my tip and post it in a few minutes.

Here is the tip attached to a 10ml syringe.
You can take a typical tipped syringe and with a very small diameter round file, you can carve out a lateral round clearance slot across the syringe tip and achieve the same results.
