Hi All

Just wondering would anyone know how I can get the software development kit (SDK) for the Canon MG7150 so that I can rework the driver?

Thanks

I think this is found nowhere outside the Canon company. What are you trying to achieve?

But you would be the hero of the Canon forum if you managed to hack the firmware and driver to include this function:" Hold the stop/resume button while inserting the refilled cartridge to reset the chip" :)

But even with access to a development kit and source codes, I think this would be impossible, as the chips are most likely not resettable, but are the single use type. Else a resetter for the PGI-x50/CLI-x51 cartridges would have been available by now. :(

Even if you got hold of a Development kit, it’s next to impossible to rework a Canon print driver and just say for argument sake you did, could you then afford the law suit that would follow.

Canon is very touchy about anyone messing around with one of their printers but expect wholesale war if you dared to interfere with their software..:hide

cheers for the replies.

Just to be clear, we still intend to use the Canon printer but we want to rework the driver to print double sided, edge-to-edge. We have a product in 25 retail stores at the moment that will be jumping to 200 plus within the next year. We are even prepared to waive the warranty.

The aim is to remove the manual process that is currently in place.

According to the Canon website the MG7150 supports automatic duplex printing, but only for the paper formats A4, A5, B5 and Letter. This function can only be used with plain paper documents, and border less (edge-to edge?) printing is not supported.

In my opinion border less printing of photos is best avoided, as the resulting ink over spray will stain plain paper documents printed later unless you run several sheets of plain paper through the printer to clean it out.

What is your special printing job? Brochures or similar? Maybe someone can recommend a printer better suited for your special needs?

we require it for personalised greetings cards. We've tried a number of printers to date but the MG7150 produced the best quality. Would be open to any recommendations that people might have?

The logic is this. Borderless will have overspray and printing right to the edge as required. However, the printer paper handling is done by sensors which require reflected light....optical sensors. White edges reflect well and the printer can detect the paper using this. If borderless is done it is likely to confuse the paper handler. Your best bet is to acquire two printers and reload one to the other as needed. This will be much faster actually than duplex printing as the paper handling is slow.
Rear feed printers are likely really what is needed in your situation. Alas, they are disappearing quickly in the standard page format.
Alternative is to get trimmers.

The MG7150 is a mechanical sensor leading edge and ending edge of the paper (plastic flag).
There is also a CD-R sensor, but still there is no evidence that is used to detect the edges of the paper when printing borderless (in some cases, CD-R sensor is looking for jammed paper under the head).

The reason why there is no borderless printing with duplex is different:
delivery rollers hold the sheet after printing the first page and on this section of the paper can not be printed. Otherwise, rollers would become dirty, and the dirt would pass with rollers on the next printouts.

OT but interesting...

New forum member Lukasz has more "Likes Received" (88) than "Messages" posted (58), no doubt due to his outstanding informative posts. Well done and well earned Lukasz! :clap

Also, and this is for @Nifty, trying to use the @Lukasz function does not work because Lukasz does not appear to be in the database.

I also like the posts by Łukasz, especially the technical info about the newest printers and service mode operations for the new printers :thumbsup

I think the problem with the tagging function is the use of a wrong first letter. Note that Polish has two forms of "L", the normal "L" and this "Ł" . You might need to look closely to see the difference.

Testing: @Łukasz , do you read me? Over. The tagging looked like it was accepted when typing, it showed the miniature icon, which I clicked to confirm.

Right-clicking the tag opens Łukasz' membership info. So Łukasz is in the database.

Here is an online "Type Polish" text editor, I used to copy and paste from. And here is the Polish alphabet.
