i thought about attempting one of martin waste tanks, but decided that since this printer has been so good to me over the years, i'd prefer not to do surgery on an old friend.

if it does make it to 75,000 pages ie D=100%, i'll probably take a shot again at another waste pad change. i do have an extra set of new pads i bought a few years ago.

changing the waste pads on this 7 year old beast was not easy the first time, but like most stuff in life should be much easier the second time around.

i took pics last waste pad change and still have the numbered egg carton that i used for parts so not lose and put back in reverse order.

I have actually resat the absorber counter twice on my iP5200. First time was accidental, caused by an error in the service manual. Before this accidental reset was made the D-vaule was around 30%. When the D-value reached 70% I resat the absorber counter again without problems, so it should be possible to reset the counter more than once.

I could not obtain new absorbers, so I cleaned and dried the old absorbers and reused them.

Fitting a waste tank is far less cumbersome than washing and cleaning then refitting these waste pads, I have experienced both and my vote goes to the external potty as the easiest option..

have heard cleaning old waste pads can be a pain, i do have a brand new set waiting if needed. so if needed would probably go that route so to avoid major surgery.

at 55,000 pages got to figure this printer may give it up any day now, but who knows.

BTW, after seeing/changing my old waste pads ie D=100%, they still had some life in them. so i was considering if i do hit D=100% again just doing a reset and not changing them. then maybe push it another 25,000 pages or so before really changing the pads and doing another reset.

re any ink leakage from bottom of printer, here's my $5 solution(see pic). i placed a top from a clear plastic storage container, it's been there 7 years now.

not elegant but effective
