anyone ever change their waste pads twice on same printer ?

here's the deal: (see attached eeprom print data below)
  • my MP830 is several years old
  • TPAGE = at nearly 55,000 pages printed
  • D = 46.6%, so nearly 1/2 way to the dreaded 100% waste pads full message

i did change the waste pads 16 months ago, at 37,000 pages, see
http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...-pad-replacement-at-37-000-pages-w-pics.7646/

from the pics in above thread, there was significant ink, but not completely soaked.

just wondering if anyone has had to do this diaper change twice on same printer and if i could get away with a reset if needed, until this MP830 does finally die.

got to to figure after 55,000 pages my MP830 is not going to last forever.

thx

I'm sure you can reset the absorber counter again, if the printer is still functional at 75000 pages, that is when I estimate the D-value will be 100%.

There has been some speculations about a limitation to the number of times service mode operations can be performed, but this only applies to some of the newest printers that need a service tool for service mode operations.

Hi Jim
Would you not consider fitting an external waste ink tank and just leave the pads as they are, it would be much quicker and easier job, and when your 830 finally goes to the celestial gods you could then fit it to the newer model..

I wonder if with some kind of slight mod (longer or different sized tubing maybe?) one of Martins/octoinks Epson Printer Pottys could be ghetto hacked to work with the Canon Pixma ranges of years gone by?

Funny you should that because I am using Martin’s potties on 3 of my Canon printers very successfully. (House trained) :hugs

Don't be sad. All that plastic in the MP830 will live forever.

I would still be using my original MP830 except for the scanner no longer works. I could use the still immaculate working printing portion but space in the room is finite for the printer and a standalone scanner. So I installed MP830 #2 and the transition was seamless.

Depending on how you feel... you could follow PeterBJ's advice and just print on till the very end. If you choose this then consider at some time in the future placing the printer on a tray or similar to catch any ink that may leak out from full waste pads. If the printer is still functioning at this time then you could then go ahead and replace the pads or install an external waste ink tank.

If you go with The Hat's recommendation now, how much "surgery" do you need to do to secure an external waste tank versus breaking the printer down and replacing the waste ink pads?

I should have been more clear, I don't recommend resetting the absorber counter and continuing printing without changing or cleaning the absorbers. You risk a nasty ink spill by doing so.

I understood this question as: "Can I do a second reset of the absorber counter from service mode, when this will be necessary, after changing or cleaning the absorbers a second time?"

My answer was only about service mode operations on the printer and I think there will be nothing to prevent you from doing a second reset.

No problems there @stratman, Martin even supplies lids with these tiny potties and tubing to prevent such little accidents like that.. :weee
Good Heaven's, man! It's not worth it to catheterize yourself just to use Martin's leprechaun-sized pottie. Get a big boy pottie!
