OR use turbguy' s excellent instructions and do the job yourself, then wash the ink pad and reuse them, that’s what I did !

Why not just buy a well-sized cheap cookie sheet, line it with a layer of paper towels, set the printer on it, and print away? When it overflows, tip it slightly, let it drain a little, change the towels, and continue?
Have thought of that. Would not win hearts and minds in the home but it would be a utilitarian solution to an emergent issue.

Do you mean purchase trigger37's instructions and jimbo123's free pictorial post?

stratman, glad to hear the refurbished MP830 is working well. draining a PGI5 cart in a single sitting, nice !

i gave my daughter an MP830 about 5 years ago. she has been refilling(german, squeeze bottles) as needed, still using original 5 ink carts. she prints heavily each Fall for a business she owns and helps manage. she prints like 18 hours a day for a 7 days or more on her MP830, refilling like every hour or so.

she affectionately calls her MP830 "the beast".

On her first day she was ridden hard but not put to bed wet. The next day she woke ready for more with nary a complaint. :love

The MP830 has been the Energizer bunny that keeps on going and going and going and... This is why I am having a time deciding what to do with Beast 1.

I wonder how much longer @mikling will carry the ink set for the MP830?

tough call whether on sending the MP830 to an authorized canon repair, they quoted me $150 just to change the pads, so might run into some $. you could try to pick up a "working" MP830 on craigslist, ebay, etc. often the purge pump is clogged or the print head is burned out but since you only need the scanner or logic board it might work out. since you plan to replace the waste pads you'd need to pull it apart anyway. the scanner unit comes out in one piece as does the logic board once you remove the connections. you might get lucky and find a completely working one.

but first, you might want to remove the sides of the printer to see if possibly the cables connecting the scanner to the logic board or any other cables have come loose. sides are easy to remove, trigger37's instructions did help with the rest of the disassemble.

if you look at my pics 1, 2, 3 it shows the logic board with scanner attached, pic 5 shows the logic board after the scanner's cables were disconnected.
