That's impressive. It looks like a lot of raw processing power to me. Are you using that power for profiling only or do you also use it for gaming?

I noticed a ribbon cable from the CPU fan connector to the CPU cooling block. I guess this powers a circulation pump?

I also think the graphics card with its heat pipe technology is impressive, and I guess the bottom HDD bay holds an SSD?, and the 750W power supply should provide ample power.

My Medion computer is much more modest, Core i5 3350P CPU with an Intel standard CPU cooler, an unimpressive GTX650 graphics card with a traditional heat sink and fan cooling, and a 450W power supply.

You are 100% right. No not gaming, I'm too slow for that sort of thing, it is more a case of, if you are going to assemble a new machine why not make it a good one, using up-to-date components. As I'm sure you will in your next creation. The additional cost is not that great.

I found Amazon the easiest source of more or less any component you required.

A lot of the parts came from stratman's area, I think the Antec case, Corsair cooler, PSU and memory, the Asus GTX 660 (presumably Nvidia).

Nice looking rig. Should serve you well. :thumbsup

I'm done building (for now :D) after some of these for my Corsair 500R case: http://www.demcifilter.com/.

Been loading software and learning Win 7, very quiet despite 7 fans, interesting to compare time to generate Argyll profile is about one third the old machine, without overclocking, so quite pleased.:)

This is the profile result:-

Here is a little feedback on the progress with the new model (see post#1), largely triggered by the fact that the Win XP demise eventually forced me on to Win 7 64bit Pro. Win 8 would have been a step too far, although The Hat is rumoured to be using 8.1:clap

This change made me decide to update the computer (more expense caused by MS) from a dual core with about 2GB of memory, to an i7, with liquid cooling, 16GB of memory and using an ASUS Z87 Pro, two 1TB HDs and a 250GB Samsung SSD and a GTX660.

My bench mark test is creating an Argyll profile (CAP480). This took 14 to 15 minutes on the dual core. On the new model running at 3.5GHz - 3.9GHz about 5 minutes 15 seconds and over clocked to 4.5GHz (automatically adjusted over clocking with AI Suite 3), 4 minutes 38 seconds. All a bit irrelevant really, but it does indicate the progress made by the industry. I noted that the speed gurus are achieving 2 to 3 times this speed (liquid nitrogen cooling?).

But I did enjoy the self assembly and component selection process.

Despite the change, when working on Printer Knowledge you would not notice the difference!:caf All benefits due to MS!

There is one question I have on Win 7, why after I have selected "details" for all files and folder display, does Win 7 keep on periodically reverting to thumbnails?
