Replaced print head because orange light was blinking 5 times.
Please advise what might be causing the banding of cyan, magenta and bk.
Tried several deep cleanings.
See the attached nozzle print.
Help! Do I have a bad print head?

Was it from China? Some sellers offer new OEM print heads that are actually used and cleaned print heads. Small details in cardboard box and plastic/aluminium bag printing might show that the print head is not new.

Could you upload photos of the cardboard box and the plastic/aluminium bag?

A genuine print head is found here: http://www.crc-tasktron.co.uk/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=75

The website says they only ship to the UK, but you could try contacting them if you are not located in the UK.

There is however a risk that either the first or the second print head has damaged the logic board, and a damaged logic board can ruin a new print head, so replacing the print head will be a gamble, and I cannot tell what your chances of success are.

Here are photos of a genuine Canon print head, click to enlarge the images:

I use the services of Octoinkjet to get mine; Martin gets the print head and for a very small fee sends it to me, Simples..

Were on first name basics now and I don’t even hold it against him for believing in Leprechauns...:D

Returned the print head to Canon for credit.
If, I replace the print head again with a new one, is there a way to determine if the logic board is bad using the service mode and if it is bad can it be replaced?
Need a recommendation for a new printer, for mostly text and very few photos
Considering the Pro 100, which is now available for under $100 using a mail in rebate of $300, but this printer is too large and doesn't have auto duplex printing. It sure looks like a nice printer for the photo professional or hobbyist.
Please help!. I want a printer like my IP 4500.

If you bought the print head from Canon, I'm almost 100% sure it was OK when delivered, and your logic board is defective. The old burned out print head most likely ruined the logic board, which then later ruined the new print head.

I don't know any tests that can tell if the logic board is defective. The parts number for the logic board is QM3-2738-000. If you can find one, it will most likely be very expensive.

Some newer Canon service manuals state that in case of a print head failure both the print head and the logic board should be replaced.

I don't know what printer to recommend. Canon sadly don't make printers for home use of the same quality as the older printers, any more, and the new PGIx50/CLI-x51 cartridges are opaque, so visual inspection of refilled cartridges is impossible, and no resetter is likely to be found in the near future. Maybe the new chips are of the single use variety, so resetting is impossible?

All sounds a bit depressing, for all of us!:(

I used a 4300, 4500 and a 4700, but the 4300 died on me some time ago and I can say the 4500 is still the better of the three by far and I use it mainly for Duplex work also.

The new Pro100 will do the same job even better than the 4500 will except for the auto duplex but that can be easily overcome by a bit of rethinking it will do Duplex manually, on important work that needs good quality black print I always switched to using manual Duplex anyway.

You $$ would be better spent on a new printer rather than risking another print head in the 4500 at this stage, as @PeterBJ rightly pointed out that the logic board might also have damage..

the build quality on the IP4500 is legendary, especially compared to the newer models. IP4500 uses the PGI5 and 4 CLI8's ink carts, fully transparent and larger capacity compared the newer ink carts. easy to refill and reset.

new IP4500s on ebay go for $400+ http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Canon-P...47597789?pt=COMP_Printers&hash=item35c58caddd

i have a brand new IP4500, incl new print head, that i bought as a spare back in 03/2008, stored indoors w heat and AC. my printer is a MP830, now at 49,000 printed pages, same ink carts(PGI5/CLI8) as IP4500.

given the longevity of my MP830s not sure if i'll ever need my spare IP4500. if interested PM me an offer with or w/o the ink carts. need a good number in order to consider selling this new IP4500.

I checked the Ebay offer and the look of the print head package made me suspicious.

Here is a scan of genuine print head QY6-0061:

printhead-package1.jpg

And the QY6-0067 or QY6-0075 from Ebay:

printhead-package2.jpg

Notice the blue printing instead of black and the presence of bar codes. So is this print head new or refurbished? I noted the ad stated that the printer had never been removed from the package, but what about the print head?

If anybody recently bought a print head from a known reliable source such as Canon USA or CRC Tasktron UK, please tell how the plastic/aluminium bag looked.
